On Friday, January 30, 2026, the German group Rheinmetall AG announced that it had received a five-year framework agreement, valued in the mid double-digit million euro range (approximately 20–90 million EUR – ed. note), for the supply of 15 types of hand grenades to the armed forces of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with an option to extend the contract by a further two years.
Referring to previous framework agreements covering 155 mm artillery ammunition and 40 mm grenades for grenade launchers for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the hand grenades, around 15 variants (offensive, defensive, smoke, training, etc.), ordered under implementing contracts will be manufactured at Rheinmetall AG group facilities in Trittau (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany), Silberhütte (Bavaria, Germany), and Schwanenstadt (Upper Austria, Austria).
As stated, the framework agreement will enable the armed forces of the European ally to procure various types of hand grenades in a flexible manner and in line with their requirements throughout the duration of the contract. The grenades meet the latest safety and quality standards and will enhance operational readiness as well as the training of personnel of the Netherlands Armed Forces.
“This contract highlights the confidence which our Dutch partners have in Rheinmetall’s capabilities and reliability as a leading European systems provider in the field of ammunition,” said Robbin Reijm, Rheinmetall’s Sales Director for the Benelux countries. “At the same time, it will strengthen our industrial base at several European sites.”
This contract is one of a series of framework agreements between Rheinmetall and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It confirms the long-standing and close cooperation between the two parties in the fields of security and industrial policy related to advanced defense technologies.
Thanks to its extensive production network and comprehensive technological expertise, Rheinmetall is a key partner of European armed forces in ensuring long-term ammunition supplies.
