On Monday, July 6, 2026, in Warsaw, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz presented the scope of Poland’s assistance to Ukraine in recent years following Russia’s attack (Polish Ministry of National Defence to reveal full scope of military aid to Ukraine).

“Our assistance is fully justified by our values. Support for Ukraine takes place in several areas. The first is support through donations and equipment. These donations have been carried out since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine. The second area of support for Ukraine is training, conducted in particular through the European mission. Poland is one of the leaders in training Ukrainian soldiers. More than 30,000 soldiers have been trained. The third area is the creation of a logistics hub, based in particular on Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport, which transfers equipment and humanitarian aid. This is also accompanied by the protection of rail and road routes, and the protection of equipment that is transferred at the most difficult moments,” the head of the Ministry of National Defence said during a meeting with the media.
As the minister noted, Poland belongs to the so-called armored capabilities coalition and has transferred T-72, PT-91, and Leopard 2A4 tanks, armored personnel carriers, and infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. The donations also included MiG-29 aircraft, Mi-2 helicopters, rocket launchers, tank ammunition, artillery ammunition, and mortar ammunition.
What is important is that every donation was transferred after prior analysis by the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces.
“This equipment was transferred after an opinion from the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces. This is always the case. We do not overextend our capabilities. Assistance to Ukraine is our strategic task, stemming from the national interest of the Republic of Poland. The line of security, the border of security, runs along the Ukrainian-Russian front, that is, the border of Polish security. The more missiles are shot down and the more drones of the Russian Federation are destroyed, the safer Poland is. (…) In reality, what we can transfer depends on the soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces. What the possibilities are – and the most important point is always one issue: the security of the Polish state,” the head of the Ministry of National Defence emphasized.
As the head of the Ministry of National Defence noted, less than 10% of all donations were transferred in recent years, from 2024 to 2026. The minister also referred to the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine. This matter is not closed.
“We received a request from the Ukrainian side that they remain interested. They presented their proposals for transferring drones to Poland over the next two years. So this possibility of an exchange is real, but it must be an exchange, not only a transfer from Poland. We are very cautious here,” the minister added.
Asked about the transfer of missiles for the Patriot system to Ukraine, the head of the Ministry of National Defence said:
“Poland is among the group of six NATO users of the Patriot system with PAC-3 missiles. At the request of the NATO Secretary General, the command of US forces in Europe, and the commander of US joint forces in Europe, after consultations with the user group, a decision was made to donate missiles for the Patriot system. The quantity transferred represents a margin of our capabilities and, in the assessment not only of the General Staff, but also of the senior commander of the US and allied forces in Europe, does not affect Poland’s air defense capabilities. And in accordance with the rules adopted in the United States and NATO, those who make donations to Ukraine (in this case, this key capability) remain among the countries covered by the most important positions in deliveries of Patriot missiles to their own states,” the head of the Ministry of National Defence said.
Referring to the lack of information about the donations, the head of the Ministry of National Defence said:
“This topic was discussed, including information about the requests, the needs, the request from the Secretary General, and later about the transfer. These reports, also from the special services, were sent in the following weeks to the Chancellery of the President and to the National Security Bureau.”
“Ukraine is not Poland’s enemy. Russia is Poland’s enemy. Our allies are in the West. The danger is in Crimea. Poland must be united on security, because if it is fractured, it will be weaker, and if it is divided, it will become defenseless,” the minister added.
MILMAG commentary
It should be recalled that on October 9, 2025, the Council for Cooperation with Ukraine at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister prepared the report Poland’s Assistance to Ukraine 2022–2023, according to which Poland allocated a total of 106 billion PLN to support its eastern neighbor and its citizens. The summary included humanitarian, political, local-government, and, of course, military assistance – and the latter is to be presented in detail. It is worth adding that on February 23, 2025, the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland presented a separate report.
According to the government report, during the period in question Poland spent 25 billion EUR (106 billion PLN), equivalent to 3.82% of GDP. Tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers were trained in Poland, and in 2022–2023 Ukraine received 44 military support packages with a total value of more than 4 billion EUR, or 4.5 billion USD (Chancellery of the Polish President Outlines Aid for War-Torn Ukraine).
