On Friday, July 3, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski held a joint press conference at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister to discuss preparations for the NATO Summit in Ankara, scheduled for July 7–8.

“The NATO Summit in Ankara is an important moment to demonstrate unity. Poland has every right to play a key role at the meeting of NATO countries, because we meet all the criteria set by the last summit in The Hague for being a loyal, model and reliable ally. Demonstrating the unity of the Alliance – military and political – is the main task,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The head of the Ministry of National Defence emphasized that one of the main topics would be the defense industry and its development in Europe.
“One of the main topics of this year’s Summit will be the defense industry. This is about implementing the decisions made in The Hague, namely the 5% spending target. The question now is: how should these funds be used? Europe’s strategic goal is to increase its capacity for independent defence. To take greater responsibility, it is necessary to be independent – in raw materials, products and the manufacturing of defense equipment. (…) Through the SAFE program, investments amounting to 120 billion złoty, as the largest beneficiary in the European Union and the country that devised the SAFE program, Poland is showing that Europe is doing more,” Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
As Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized, relocating ammunition factories and arms plants, as well as developing the defense industry, will be the most important objective set at this year’s Summit for all NATO countries, including Poland.
Poland, he noted, is interested in relocating production lines related to air defense, both missile defense and air defense, from the United States, particularly those connected with the MIM-104 Patriot system.
“Europe must be a leader. Europe must once again become a beacon for other continents, showing that its defense, production, self-sufficiency and supply-chain independence capabilities will be the greatest in history. (…) From a military point of view, the defense industry, its development, interoperability among individual armies and military mobility are the most important issues to be discussed during the Summit,” the head of the Ministry of National Defence said.
“The purpose of this Summit is to show Vladimir Putin the unity of the West. Russia is waging a hybrid war and a cognitive war. It is trying to divide us, to turn us against our allies and against Ukraine as it fights, while we will show that the Alliance is not only united but, after the accession of Sweden and Finland, also strengthened,” Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski emphasized.
During the NATO Summit, Poland will also seek to advance the development of the Alliance’s security infrastructure, in particular the construction of a fuel pipeline network in Central and Eastern Europe, the strengthening of the European defense industry and production capabilities, and the development of deterrence potential.
