Russia launches another air attack on Kyiv

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported another massive Russian missile and drone attack involving 419 weapons, with Kyiv as the main target.

On Monday, July 6, 2026, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said Russia had launched another massive missile and drone attack involving 419 weapons, more than 86% of which were neutralized. Kyiv was the main target of the attacks, which began yesterday at 6:00 p.m. local time.

The Russians launched:

  • six 3M22 Tsirkon hypersonic missiles, or P-800 Oniks/Yakhont missiles, from launchers in Kursk Oblast;
  • 23 Iskander-M ballistic missiles or S-400 surface-to-air missiles from Kursk, Bryansk, and Oryol oblasts;
  • 33 Kh-101 cruise missiles from bombers operating over Vologda Oblast;
  • six Kalibr cruise missiles from ships in the naval port of Novorossiysk;
  • 351 Geran/Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas unmanned aircraft, as well as decoy drones of various types, including Parodiya, from the directions of Shatalovo, Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and occupied Donetsk Oblast.

The attack was repelled by aircraft, air defense missile troops, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile air defense groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to preliminary data, by 8:30 a.m. local time, air defense systems had shot down or forced 363 targets to crash, including 31 Kh-101 missiles, six Kalibr missiles, and 326 unmanned aircraft. Hits by 29 ballistic and hypersonic or anti-ship missiles, as well as 18 unmanned aircraft, were recorded at 34 locations, along with falling drone debris at 16 locations. At the time of publication, several unmanned aircraft remained in Ukrainian airspace.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President Of Ukraine:

Tonight, Kyiv came under a massive Russian attack. Russia launched 68 missiles and another 351 attack drones. Efforts to deal with the aftermath are now underway. Damage has been recorded at more than 10 locations in the city, including residential buildings. All necessary services are working at the sites, doing everything possible to save people and provide assistance to everyone who needs it. As of now, 64 people have been rescued, including two children. As of now, it is known that, unfortunately, 11 people were killed in this attack. My condolences to their families and loved ones. About 60 more people were injured.

In Kyiv Oblast, 16 people were injured and three people were killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. In Vyshneve, a fire is ongoing at the site of a missile strike. People are being evacuated from the private residential sector. More than 400 rescuers and police officers have been involved in dealing with the consequences of the attack.

Our warriors showed good results today in shooting down drones and cruise missiles, but unfortunately not against Russian ballistic missiles. The reason is precisely the insufficient supply of interceptor missiles. It is very important that the world, above all America and our European partners, leave the NATO Summit in Ankara with strong decisions in support of protecting our skies, and therefore protecting the lives of ordinary people. As long as Patriot missiles remain in allied warehouses, this only encourages Russia to continue “defeating” residential buildings. The United States and Europe have enough strength to stop this terror.

State Emergency Service of Ukraine:

Kyiv: nine people were killed and 43 injured, including two children, in the Russian attack. At least 15 residential buildings were damaged. The search-and-rescue operation continues in the Podilskyi district. Rescuers are also working in the Darnytskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Obolonskyi districts.

Kyiv: The death toll from the Russian attack has risen to 10, while 43 people were injured. Work to deal with the aftermath is ongoing. The information is being updated.

Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine:

At 1:38 a.m., the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command issued a statement:

Attention. Due to the activity of the Russian Federation’s long-range aviation, which is carrying out strikes on the territory of Ukraine, military aircraft have begun operating in Polish airspace.

In accordance with applicable procedures, the Armed Forces Operational Command has activated the necessary forces and assets at its disposal. Fighter aircraft have begun operations, while ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have reached a state of readiness.

These measures are preventive in nature and are aimed at securing and protecting airspace, especially in areas adjacent to threatened regions.

The Armed Forces Operational Command is monitoring the current situation, and its subordinate forces and assets remain ready for an immediate response.

At 3:57 a.m., another statement was issued:

The operation of military aircraft in our airspace, related to the Russian Federation’s strikes on Ukraine, has ended. The activated ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have returned to standard operational activity.

We would like to inform you that no violation of Polish airspace was recorded.

We thank NATO, NATO Allied Air Command, and the French Air and Space Force, whose aircraft helped ensure security in Polish skies today. We also extend our thanks to the Netherlands Armed Forces for their support with air defense systems.

The Polish Armed Forces are continuously monitoring the situation on the territory of Ukraine and remain on constant alert to ensure the security of Polish airspace.
