On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz presented Lieutenant General Piotr Błazeusz with the appointment act naming him Poland’s Military Representative to the NATO and EU Military Committees.

In August, Lieutenant General Piotr Błazeusz will assume the role of Poland’s Military Representative to the NATO and EU Military Committees. This is an extremely responsible mission, of major importance for strengthening Poland’s position and advancing international cooperation.

Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz
Lieutenant General Piotr Błazeusz will replace Lieutenant General Sławomir Wojciechowski as Poland’s Military Representative to the NATO and EU Military Committees. General Wojciechowski has held the post since January 2022.
Lieutenant General Piotr Błazeusz began his military service at the Military University of Technology in Warsaw, where he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1994. He took up his first post as commander of an assault platoon in 1996 in the 10th Air Assault Battalion of the 6th Air Assault Brigade. He then served as a NATO specialist in the office of the Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence. His subsequent assignments included deputy defense attaché in Washington, senior specialist in the P-5 Strategic Planning Directorate of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, and director of the office of the Minister of National Defence.
In 2007, he was appointed chief of the Command Center of the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces, and later served as chief of training of the 1st Mechanized Division in Legionowo. On August 15, 2009, while serving as commander of the 15th Giżycko Mechanized Brigade, he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general. From October 2011 to April 2012, he commanded the 10th rotation of the Polish Military Contingent in Afghanistan. Then, from 2013, he served as head of the NATO operations branch and deputy Polish Military Representative to the NATO and EU Military Committees in Brussels.
In 2017, he was appointed head of the P5 Directorate for Armed Forces Development Planning and Programming in the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces. In 2019, he first became chief of staff of the General Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces, and then deputy chief of staff for strategic development and preparations at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). At the same time, he was promoted to the next general officer rank, major general. In mid-2021, he assumed the post of deputy chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces. On August 15, 2022, he was promoted to the next general officer rank, lieutenant general. From September 26, 2022, he served as First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, while from March 29, 2024, to September 18, 2025, he served as commander of the European Corps (commonly known as Eurocorps). He was then appointed strategic adviser to the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces.
The general is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, the University of Warsaw, the Aleksander Gieysztor Academy of Humanities in Pułtusk, and the postgraduate Defense Policy Studies program at the National Defence Academy.
He has been decorated, among others, with the Silver Cross of Merit, the Military Cross of Merit, the NATO Meritorious Service Medal, the Afghanistan Star, the U.S. Bronze Star, and the Afghan Medal for Service in Support of Afghanistan’s Security and Sovereignty. He has completed more than 500 parachute jumps and served as a U.S. Air Force parachute instructor.
