On Friday, July 3, 2026, Germany’s Rheinmetall AG announced that it will deliver seven highly mobile field hospitals to the Kingdom of Morocco in 2027–2028, under a contract worth the equivalent of several tens of millions of euros. The solution selected by the authorities in Rabat was developed and field-tested by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Rheinmetall is steadily expanding its presence in the international market for mobile medical facilities, achieving a significant sales success in North Africa. In June 2026, its subsidiary Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme GmbH, previously known as Zeppelin Mobile Systeme (ZMS), signed a contract with the Kingdom of Morocco to deliver one field hospital for the Moroccan Ministry of Defense and the remaining six for the Ministry of the Interior. A local medical equipment distributor will be responsible for processing and delivering the systems to the Kingdom of Morocco.
Highly mobile and self-sufficient medical care
The systems are characterized by exceptional mobility: once deployed, they are fully transportable by truck and can be expanded with military tents for operations outside the vehicles.
This contract is based on the highly mobile field hospitals developed by Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme GmbH, which are already being successfully used by the Ukrainian armed forces. They were designed specifically for difficult transport conditions and extreme environmental conditions.
Functional treatment centers with state-of-the-art equipment
At the heart of the Moroccan field hospitals is an operating theater (OT) complex, consisting of the following self-sufficient functional units:
- Modern operating room;
- Intensive care unit;
- Sterilization unit.
These deployable shelters are designed as specialized containers with expandable sections which, once deployed, form a fully functional medical center. Their setup and dismantling times are extremely short.
This central facility is surrounded by patient rooms and other standard facilities, such as an X-ray room, pharmacy, and laboratory. The hospital is complemented by specialist departments, including an ophthalmology clinic, dentistry, and ENT, as well as a CT scanner.
The systems are designed for self-sufficient operation both in the field and in urban areas. They are fully independent for a specified period and have their own power, water, and oxygen supplies. The comprehensive scope of delivery is rounded out by military accommodation and sanitary facilities.
A significant contribution to saving lives
Armin Krenn, Managing Director of Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme GmbH, emphasized the project’s strategic and humanitarian importance:
“We are delighted to have secured this follow-up order for our field hospitals and to be engaging in cooperation in the North African region. Our systems not only save lives in military conflicts but also make a crucial contribution to maintaining acute care when local and stationary hospitals are unable to operate. Together with our Moroccan customer, we have developed a high-performance, mission-oriented solution for the Royal Medical Service.”
