W piątek, 3 kwietnia 2026, irańskie media opublikowały fotografie szczątków domniemanego amerykańskiego samolotu wielozadaniowego Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, który został zestrzelony dziś przez Korpus Strażników Rewolucji Islamskiej (IRCG) nad krajem, jednak w rzeczywistości, zgodnie z dostępnymi materiałami, był to wielozadaniowy Boeing F-15E Strike Eagle. USA zaprzeczają.

Zgodnie z oznaczeniami był to samolot należący do 48. Skrzydła Myśliwskiego Liberty Wing (48th Fighter Wing) z brytyjskiej bazy lotniczej RAF Lakenheath, w hrabstwie Suffolk w Anglii. Charakterystyczny czerwony pas w białej ramce oznacza przynależność do 494. Eskadry Myśliwskiej Panthers (494th Fighter Squadron). Obecnie jest ona rozmieszczona w Jordanii w ramach operacji Epic Fury jako 494. Ekspedycyjna Eskadra Myśliwska.
Dwanaście samolotów trafiło do rejon odpowiedzialności Dowództwa Centralnego Stanów Zjednoczonych (CENTCOM), 17 stycznia br., prawdopodobnie do jordańskiej bazy lotniczej Muwaffak Salti.

Co ciekawe, według szefostwa Chatam-al Anbija, odpowiedzialnego w Korpusie Strażników Rewolucji Islamskiej (IRCG) za wsparcie inżynieryjno-budowlane, trafiono również drugiego F-35 nad centralnym Iranem, ale jako dowód przedstawiono rzeczone szczątki F-15E.
Wcześniej, agencja prasowa Tasnim opublikowała nagranie wideo z przechwycenia, jak twierdzono pierwszego F-35, w rejonie wyspy Keszm, położonej w Cieśninie Ormuz.
