In a separate press release, the Polish Armaments Group announced that Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne had been designated as the Polish defense industry company selected to receive technology transfer for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of K2 tank engines. The expansion of cooperation between WZM and Hyundai Rotem Company was announced during an event held at the PGZ company’s facility in Poznań.

The cooperation is intended to build service and overhaul capabilities in Poland for key components of the K2 tanks. The planned activities include establishing at Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne the capability to service, repair, and overhaul DV27K engines.
The inclusion of WZM among the companies designated to receive technology transfer for Level 4 MRO is another step in developing a domestic technical support base for the K2 program. In the future, the capabilities being established are expected to support the sustainment of equipment operated by the Polish Armed Forces and reduce dependence on carrying out advanced servicing and overhaul work outside Poland.
„For many months, we have been seeking an opportunity to establish cooperation between WZM and our Korean partner in connection with the K2 project. We remember the disappointment that accompanied the decision to select Bumar-Łabędy as the site for tank production. Now, thanks to cooperation between the management boards of Bumar and WZM and the openness of HRC, we have succeeded in securing a positive decision on this matter. The Ministry of National Defence made a major contribution to changing our partner’s position, for which we are grateful. Including Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne in the development of the domestic MRO base for K2 tanks is a natural use of the Poznań company’s experience and capabilities. Our goal is to establish permanently in Poland the capabilities necessary to support equipment used by the Polish Armed Forces. This is a process that requires further arrangements and preparations, but the direction of cooperation announced today represents an important step in the development of domestic servicing and overhaul capabilities. The concept of the Hipolit Cegielski Wielkopolska Armored Works is gaining a new dimension,” emphasized Adam Leszkiewicz, President of the Management Board of PGZ.
Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne has many years of experience in servicing, diagnosing, and overhauling powerpacks for military vehicles. The company performs, among other activities, scheduled maintenance, repairs, major overhauls, and component regeneration, as well as manufacturing selected spare parts. WZM’s capabilities cover powerpacks used in various types of tracked and wheeled vehicles operated by the Polish Armed Forces.
The development of capabilities related to K2 tanks will be carried out as part of broader industrial cooperation connected with the K2 program. Zakłady Mechaniczne Bumar-Łabędy is acting in this process as the entity coordinating the establishment of domestic servicing and production capabilities in cooperation with Hyundai Rotem Company.
The announced direction of cooperation provides a basis for further technical and organizational arrangements necessary to prepare the technology transfer and establish the required capabilities at WZM.

It is worth adding that earlier it had been suggested that servicing might instead be carried out at Zakłady Mechaniczne Bumar-Łabędy, especially since assembly, servicing, and Polish adaptation of K2PL tanks and support vehicles based on them are to take place there. Under the previous leadership of the Ministry of National Defence, however, it had been planned for these activities to be carried out at Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne.
The decision to establish the Hipolit Cegielski Wielkopolska Armored Works in Poznań was announced on 22 June this year. They are being created on the basis of Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne and H. Cegielski-Poznań, and will also service M88A2 HERCULES armored recovery vehicles.
The K2GF Heuk-Pyo (Black Panther) tanks currently being delivered to Poland are powered by a powerpack consisting of the South Korean HD Hyundai Doosan Infracore DV27K diesel engine and the German RENK HSWL 295 TM transmission. In the near future, the Korean manufacturer plans to introduce the domestically produced SNT Dynamics EST15K transmission.

The DV27K is a four-stroke, 12-cylinder, water-cooled diesel engine rated at 1,500 hp (1,104 kW) at 2,700 rpm and equipped with twin turbochargers. The engine weighs 2,578 kg without engine oil. It develops a maximum torque of 450 kg-m at 1,400/1,800 rpm. Its displacement is 26.9 liters. The engine measures 1,828 mm in length, 1,060 mm in width, and 1,126 mm in height. Fuel injection is fully electronically controlled.
The RENK HSWL 295 TM automatic transmission measures 1,800 mm × 774 mm × 840 mm and weighs 2,450 kg without oil. It is designed for tanks with a combat weight of 50 to 70 tonnes, powered by diesel engines with a maximum output of 1,600 hp in a U-shaped powerpack configuration. It features five forward and five reverse gears, as well as an integrated braking system.
