“For us, this partnership has a very practical dimension. We’re not starting with a general declaration of cooperation, but with specific technological needs related to the programs we’re already developing in Niewiadów. The first of these is 155 mm artillery ammunition. The goal of this collaboration is to increase the share of domestic technologies and components in our products, shorten the path from research to production, and reduce our dependence on foreign supply chains. In the long term, this means a stronger position for Niewiadów both on the domestic market and in export projects,” emphasizes Krystian Gąsior, CEO of ZSP Niewiadów.
The agreement is another important element in the implementation of the broader project to build a comprehensive ammunition technology and production chain in Poland by the Niewiadów Group. The cooperation is intended to enable ZSP Niewiadów to develop technologies related, among other things, to shaped-charge liners, warhead components, and missile technologies in which Łukasiewicz institutes specialize. For the Łukasiewicz Research Network, the strategic partnership means that researchers and engineers will be able to consult with industry representatives at the early stages of technology development.
“Thanks to this, their work doesn’t end with a scientific publication; instead, it has the potential to immediately shape a product that will reach the market. This approach is essential for the Network to generate revenue from the commercialization of technology,” explains Dr. Hubert Cichocki, president of the Łukasiewicz Center. “We offer our partners a multidisciplinary approach so they can immediately focus on solving specific production problems rather than searching for scattered expertise. Among other resources, ZSP Niewiadów will have access to the Competence Center specializing in ammunition and rocket technologies, which we established earlier this year,” says President Cichocki.
The Competence Center for Missile and Ammunition Programs was established in February 2026. It combines the capabilities of the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Organic Industry in explosives and rocket propellants with the expertise of other Network institutes specializing in areas such as specialized electronics and materials engineering. In the field of 155 mm ammunition, Łukasiewicz offers, among other things, specialty chemicals, sensors, advanced materials including composites, as well as a broad range of shaped-charge liners. Since 2024, the Łukasiewicz Research Network has focused on projects related to defense and national security, as well as dual-use technologies. In 2026, projects of this type account for 70% of all new projects across the Network.
The agreement forms part of the rapid development of Niewiadów PGM and its ongoing investments aimed at rebuilding domestic production capabilities for ammunition and munitions. The Group is currently developing Polish 155 mm artillery ammunition together with the Military Institute of Armament Technology (WITU) and is building industrial production capabilities for it in Niewiadów. Ultimately, three production lines are expected to provide an annual production capacity of 180,000 rounds.
At the end of August, NPGM completed technical acceptance of new filling lines for large-caliber ammunition. In early September, further tests of the Polish 155 mm projectile confirmed its correct performance in flight. The Group subsequently showcased the scale of its growing capabilities during Range Day Niewiadów 2026, combining a presentation of its more than 100-hectare defense-industrial complex with demonstrations at its own proving ground, as well as during MSPO 2026, where the Group’s portfolio was presented at four exhibition locations.
