On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, the second day of the 34th International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO 2026), South Korean company Hyundai Rotem signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huta Częstochowa to explore the potential use of armor steel plates produced in Poland in the manufacture of K2PL tanks, support vehicles and other military platforms.

The memorandum establishes a framework for further technical and commercial discussions between the companies. Under the agreement, the partners will jointly assess the possibility of Huta Częstochowa supplying armor steel plates for Hyundai Rotem’s military vehicle programs. The assessment will include, among other things, compliance of the offered materials with applicable technical and quality requirements.
The agreement forms part of Hyundai Rotem’s efforts to expand the industrial dimension of the K2 program in Poland. Under the second implementing contract, 61 K2PL tanks are to be produced in Poland. The contract also covers specialized support vehicles. Technology transfer and localization of production are key elements of the program, while Polish industry is expected to gradually develop capabilities in areas including the production of hulls, turrets and other key vehicle components.
“The agreement with Huta Częstochowa is another step in our efforts to increase the participation of Polish industry in the K2 program. As production of K2PL tanks and support vehicles is gradually localized in Poland, we want to build a strong domestic supply chain around these platforms. The potential use of Polish armor steel is an important element of this process and may further strengthen the role of Polish industry in the production of the K2PL and the entire family of support vehicles” – said Yong Bae Lee, President and CEO of Hyundai Rotem Company.
“We are very pleased to be able to participate in such an important project as the localization of production and maintenance of K2 tanks. Huta Częstochowa’s involvement in this undertaking confirms our substantial production capabilities and our potential to carry out tasks for the Polish defense sector” – emphasized Adrian Sienicki, President of the Management Board of Huta Częstochowa.
On April 16 this year, Huta Częstochowa obtained a license from the Polish Ministry of the Interior and Administration for the manufacture and trade of products and technologies intended for military and police use. Subsequently, on May 18 this year, an agreement was finalized under which shares in Huta Częstochowa were acquired by the Military Property Agency and Węglokoks.
On August 4 this year, Huta Częstochowa was also assigned NATO Commercial and Government Entity (NCAGE) Code 9D3GH, identifying the company as an entity operating in the military market within the NATO Codification System (NCS). Huta Częstochowa’s data were also entered into the Business Entity Database maintained by the Military Center for Standardization, Quality and Codification, as well as the NATO business entity database maintained by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).
