W niedzielę, 7 czerwca 2026, Iran wystrzelił pociski balistyczne w kierunku Izraela w odpowiedzi na izraelskie naloty na południowe przedmieścia Bejrutu. Był to pierwszy bezpośredni atak rakietowy Iranu na Izrael od czasu zawieszenia broni z kwietnia 2026. Irańskie władze oświadczyły, że był to odwet za izraelski atak na Hezbollah i ostrzegły przed dalszymi działaniami, jeśli naloty na Liban będą kontynuowane. Siły Obronne Izraela poinformowały, że wszystkie pociski zostały przechwycone i nie odnotowano bezpośrednich ofiar ani zniszczeń na terytorium Izraela.
Od czasu początkowego zawieszenia broni między Izraelem a Libanem/Hezbollahem z 16 kwietnia 2026 (ogłoszonego przez USA), rozejm był wielokrotnie naruszany przez obie strony. W kolejnych tygodniach dochodziło do sporadycznych wymian ognia. W maju sytuacja się zaostrzyła – Izrael przeprowadzał naloty i ograniczone operacje lądowe w południowym Libanie, poszerzając strefę buforową, a Hezbollah odpowiadał atakami dronów i rakiet na północ Izraela oraz likwidacjami izraelskich żołnierzy.
Na początku czerwca podjęto kolejną próbę wznowienia zawieszenia broni, w ramach której Izrael zobowiązał się m.in. nie atakować południowych przedmieść Bejrutu. Mimo tego, w następnych dniach nadal dochodziło do wzajemnych ostrzałów i izraelskich uderzeń na dowódców Hezbollah w południowym Libanie. Dopiero 7 czerwca Izrael przeprowadził atak na cele Hezbollah w dzielnicy Ad-Dahija Al-Dżanubijja w południowym Bejrucie – pierwszy taki atak na stolicę od czasu kwietniowego rozejmu. Zginęły co najmniej 2 osoby, a 11 zostało rannych. Atak ten spowodował natychmiastową reakcję Iranu, który od miesięcy groził eskalacją w razie uderzeń na Bejrut.
Iran wystrzelił kilkanaście pocisków balistycznych w kilku salwach, część z nich została przechwycona przez izraelskie systemy obrony przeciwrakietowej. Korpus Strażników Rewolucji Islamskiej (IRCG) ostrzegł, że atak był ostrzeżeniem. Prezydent USA Donald Trump miał namawiać premiera Izraela Binjamina Netanjahu do nie odpowiadania Iranowi, jednak Siły Obronne Izraela poinformowały później o zaatakowaniu celów wojskowych w południowym i centralnym Iranie.

W nocy eksplozje były słyszalne także m.in. w Teheranie, Tabrizie, Bandar-e Mahszahr, Kermanszah i Isfahanie. Izrael kontynuował naloty dziś rano, używając m.in. lotniczych pocisków balistycznych.
