On Thursday, April 2, 2026, U.S. forces reportedly struck twice and severely damaged the B1 (Beyek/Bileghan) road bridge linking Tehran with Karaj in Alborz Province, considered a major achievement of Iranian civil engineering and one of the largest structures of its kind in the region. The first strike reportedly occurred between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. local time, with another following about an hour later.

The bridge is located on the northern bypass of Karaj, which is part of Highway 2 linking the city with the capital to the east, and further extending toward northern and western Iran.
The structure consists of eight spans, the longest measuring 178 meters, with a total length of 1,050 meters. The pylons (towers) reach a height of 136 meters. The project was estimated to cost around 500 billion IRR (approximately 1.4 billion PLN). It had been under construction for several years using Iranian engineering expertise, local technologies, and materials, and was intended to reduce travel time between Tehran and the northern regions of the country. At the time of the attack, it was in the final phase of construction, with its opening scheduled for the coming months.
According to available materials, a span collapsed across the entire width of the structure between the pylons. Iranian authorities reported that 8 people were killed and 95 injured in the attack.
In response, authorities in Tehran threatened to strike bridges in the region, including in Israel.
Meanwhile, sources cited by the American newspaper The New York Times claim that the targeted bridge was part of a planned military supply route intended to sustain the combat capabilities of Iran’s ballistic missile forces and attack drones.
“The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again — Much more to follow! IT IS TIME FOR IRAN TO MAKE A DEAL BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE,” – wrote U.S. President Donald Trump on the Truth social media platform.
