On Friday, July 24, 2026, Ukrainian defense outlet Defense Express was the first to report that Poland’s WB Group had supplied the Warmate 5 weapon system to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It has joined other systems produced by the Polish company that have been successfully used in combat operations against Russia: the FlyEye reconnaissance unmanned aircraft and the Warmate 3 loitering munition.

According to a July 23 post on the ukr_informant Telegram channel, the likely operator is the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR). The channel published combat footage confirming the introduction of the Warmate 5 onto the Ukrainian battlefield. It remains unclear whether the procurement was financed by Poland, Ukraine, or another country, for example through the Drone Coalition, potentially with funding from Sweden.
The media reports were addressed on the X social media platform by Remigiusz Wilk, Communications Director at WB Group, who confirmed the deliveries:
“While others are still conducting tests or only beginning to receive development grants, WB Group is going through the standard, painstaking process, even during wartime, of introducing the Warmate 5 into service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, manufacturing it on a mass scale and delivering it by the hundreds. This is the strength of knowledge, experience, and an integrated system.”

Warmate 5 is a loitering munition with enhanced capabilities for engaging targets, including heavily armored vehicles, at long ranges. The system’s main components are an unmanned aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of 35 kg and an interchangeable warhead, a launcher, and a ground control station. It can be used to support units on the battlefield or as a precision weapon for engaging targets at ranges of approximately 100 km. Its operating altitude ranges from 1,000 m to a maximum of 3,500 m, its cruising speed is approximately 90 km/h, and its attack speed exceeds 250 km/h. Its accuracy is below 1.5 m.
Loitering munitions provide an advantage on the modern battlefield without requiring the commitment of substantial personnel and equipment resources. Such strike systems are distinguished by their ability to remain airborne over a designated target area for extended periods, independently search for and attack targets, or neutralize objects designated by other airborne platforms, such as FT-5 and FlyEye reconnaissance unmanned systems, or by special operations forces personnel.
Warmate 5 is equipped with an interchangeable warhead weighing between 5 and 10 kg. Depending on the mission, it can carry a high-explosive fragmentation, thermobaric, or anti-tank warhead. Its long range, ability to independently identify and engage targets, and communications relay capability make it a flexible battlefield asset.
Warmate 5 can form part of larger reconnaissance-strike systems, such as Gladius, which is operated by the Polish Armed Forces. Interestingly, earlier media reports suggested that this system had been tested in Ukraine. The loitering munition is distinguished by its rapid response time after a potential target is detected and its ability to strike at ranges exceeding those of typical tube and rocket artillery. The Warmate 5 strike system can be used against armored vehicles and rear-area targets such as depots, fuel facilities, and radar stations.
