Analysis
The UTD-20 765-01Z2 W-2 engine is a variant of the UTD-20 powerplant used in Polish BWP-1 infantry fighting vehicles and BWR-1D/S reconnaissance vehicles. The most recent contract for overhauling these engines was signed on May 15, 2025, with the company RSY of Iława, and was valued at 4,153,600 PLN.
The UTD-20 is a six-cylinder, four-stroke, naturally aspirated diesel engine, liquid-cooled and arranged in a V configuration, with a displacement of 15,800 cm³. It produces 300 hp at 2,600 rpm. Power is transmitted to the drive wheels via a mechanically and hydraulically controlled mechanical transmission system, which enables reverse movement, braking, and steering. The gearbox is a five-speed unit (five forward gears plus reverse). Total fuel capacity is 462 liters.
The W-46-SU12 W-2 engine, in turn, is a variant of the W-46 family used to power T-72–series tanks and the PT-91 Twardy main battle tank. It is a four-stroke, V12, 12-cylinder, liquid-cooled diesel engine with direct fuel injection, a displacement of 38.88 liters, and a maximum output of 780–850 hp, depending on the variant and year of production. Maximum torque ranges from 2,800 to 3,200 Nm.
