On Thursday, May 7, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced on social media that he had presented appointment certificates assigning four Polish Armed Forces officers to new official positions.

“I am pleased to announce that a moment ago I presented the decision to Brig. Gen. Mariusz Chmielewski, who, as of June 16 this year, will become the new Commander of the Cyber Defence Forces Component Command (DK WOC). I am convinced that the General’s experience and knowledge to date will allow for the further development of the Cyber Defence Forces, which today effectively safeguard our security in cyberspace and are among the best forces of their kind in NATO.
Decisions assigning them to new official positions were also received by:
- Col. Andrzej Magiera – appointed Commander of the 1st Logistics Brigade
- Col. Radosław Sułek – appointed Commander of the 4th Logistics Brigade
- Col. Przemysław Kubicki – appointed Commander of the 13th Silesian Territorial Defence Brigade

As of June 16, Brig. Gen. Mariusz Chmielewski, currently Deputy Commander for IT, will replace Maj. Gen. Karol Molenda as Commander of the Cyber Defence Forces Component Command. Maj. Gen. Molenda will take up the post of Cyber Champion – strategic adviser to NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Transformation – in July this year (Polish General Selected as Cyber Champion at NATO Command).
Brig. Gen. Mariusz Chmielewski is a respected IT architect and scientist involved in system development and research in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and decision-support systems. He was promoted to the rank of brigadier general in 2023. He is the recipient of more than 100 prestigious awards granted by domestic scientific circles and international bodies for significant inventions, including in the fields of biomedicine and command support. He conducts R&D projects and research in command support, computer simulation, and the application of artificial intelligence methods in biomedicine at the Faculty of Cybernetics of the Military University of Technology. He is responsible for the construction, implementation, and maintenance of open and classified ICT services and systems for the Ministry of National Defence. In 2012, he defended with distinction his doctoral dissertation on the application of artificial intelligence methods and semantic analysis in the identification of crisis situations. He is an academic teacher and promoter of knowledge in computer science, conducting original classes in more than 23 thematic modules covering software engineering, artificial intelligence, programming, and cybersecurity.
