“I have appointed a new commander of the GROM unit today!
As of April 1, 2026, Colonel Krzysztof Mila will take command of Military Unit GROM—one of the most elite special operations units in the world. He is an experienced officer who has been associated with special forces for many years.
Good luck!”

Colonel Krzysztof “Komar” Mila will replace Colonel Grzegorz “Wydra” Gers, who has served as acting commander of Poland’s GROM since March 30, 2023.
The newly appointed commander is an experienced GROM operator, a product of the unit, and one of the most distinguished soldiers in Poland’s Special Forces. He graduated from the Military Academy of Land Forces in 1999 and joined GROM as a second lieutenant. He completed the full selection and operator training cycle, then progressed through all levels – from operator to team leader (including commanding Combat Team A). He earned the title of Cichociemny, the unit’s highest level of qualification.
He has completed dozens of specialist courses both in Poland and abroad. He served overseas in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan. For exceptional bravery during operations in Afghanistan, he was awarded the Military Cross. While commanding a combat team, he trained and exchanged experience with U.S. and UK special forces.
After many years of service in GROM, he spent several years in the civilian sector working as a security expert. A few months ago, he was invited to return and was appointed deputy to the acting commander of Poland’s GROM.
