On Thursday, February 5, 2026, the European consortium Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH (comprising Airbus Defence and Space, Leonardo, and BAE Systems) announced that it had signed a contract with the NETMA (NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency) for the development, testing, and certification of an Aerodynamic Modification Kit (AMK) for Typhoon multirole aircraft.

The AMK will enable faster integration of new weapons and certification of new external payloads, including future anti-radiation missiles designed to destroy enemy air defense radars. These include the American AGM-88E AARGM (Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile) produced by Northrop Grumman, which will be integrated with the German Eurofighter EK (Elektronischer Kampf) aircraft.
Additional capabilities, such as state-of-the-art air-to-ground weapons and air-to-air missiles, will be integrated for the lead customer under the AMK package. Future integrations include, among others, the latest version of long-range missiles (most likely referring to the Taurus Neo cruise missile).
The AMK also paves the way for further improvements in the aircraft’s combat performance, particularly through enhanced target detection and improved close-combat capabilities (greater angle of attack, faster turns, and a reduced turning radius). These enhancements result from the extension of the wing leading edge at the wing root, as well as modifications to the fuselage strakes and flaperons, leading to a noticeable increase in maximum wing lift (up to approximately 25% in 2015 tests), along with changes to the flight control system and avionics software.
The development and production of the AMK kits, carried out by the Eurofighter partner companies Airbus Defence and Space, BAE Systems, and Leonardo, will further strengthen the technological expertise of the European aerospace industry, demonstrating successful cooperation in the development and qualification of advanced combat aircraft systems.
“Signing the AMK contract marks a major milestone for the Eurofighter programme, further enhacing the jet’s long-term capability.”
Jorge Tamarit-Degenhardt, Chief Executive Officer of Eurofighter
“The AMK will provide a huge boost to our Air Forces during their missions, significantly enhancing the integration of air-to-surface configurations and offering greater flexibility in stores carriage, while supporting flight performance. The Eurofighter Typhoon will continue to be the backbone of European air defence into the 2060s, and capability enhancements, such as the AMK, will ensure the platform is operationally effective to fulfil that role.”
“The signature of the AMK contract is a significant achievement for the Eurofighter Programme, enabling faster weapon integration, heavier load certification and host of other improvements.”
Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Simon Ellard (ret.), General Manager NETMA
“This contract will continue the evolution of the Eurofighter Typhoon, and reflects the Programme’s commitment to innovation and delivering the capabilities needed by our Air Forces.”
