On Monday, March 16, 2026, Bydgoszcz-based Zakłady Chemiczne Nitro-Chem, part of the Polish Armaments Group, signed a contract with PROZAP (a company within the Grupa Azoty Group) for the design of a second, new TNT production line. The investment is a response to growing demand for TNT reported by foreign partners and aligns with strategic needs related to national security and defense.

This will be the second TNT production installation at the Bydgoszcz-based company, significantly increasing production capacity and modernizing technological infrastructure while maintaining the highest safety standards. The selection of PROZAP as the design partner confirms the importance of the Grupa Azoty Group’s experience and expertise in delivering advanced projects for the chemical industry (Poland: Nitro-Chem and Grupa Azoty Expand Cooperation in the Production of High-Energy Materials).
“This is a milestone for Nitro-Chem and the Polish defense industry. The new installation will increase TNT production, strengthen our competitive advantage, and reinforce Poland’s position as a strategic partner for international security,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski.
“Nitro-Chem is one of the most important facilities not only in Poland, but in the entire NATO. There is no better TNT than that produced in Bydgoszcz. The Polish Armaments Group and Nitro-Chem in Bydgoszcz will be the ones supplying top-quality TNT to others,” said Konrad Gołota, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets.
“The PGZ Group is launching efforts to increase TNT production capacity at Nitro-Chem. This is our main export product and extremely important in today’s security environment. We are making progress, but our goal is to implement the investment as quickly as possible. That is our objective. Unique technology combined with limited TNT availability underpins the Group’s distinctive capabilities and reflects the strong position of the Polish defense industry,” said PGZ CEO Adam Leszkiewicz.
“The signing of the agreement with PROZAP is an important step in implementing our development strategy. We are seeing a clear increase in demand for TNT from other countries, and preparations for building a second production installation will allow us to effectively meet these needs while strengthening Poland’s security and industrial independence,” said Nitro-Chem CEO Arkadiusz Miszuk.
“We are consistently developing competencies within the Grupa Azoty Group in the field of chemicals for the defense sector, both based on our production capabilities and the engineering potential of our companies. Another contract for design work carried out by PROZAP confirms that we have the technological base to participate in the most demanding projects for the defense industry. Cooperation with Nitro-Chem, and more broadly with entities of the Polish Armaments Group, is an example of building national competencies under a local content model—from installation design, through raw material supply, to the development of high-energy materials technologies. Such projects strengthen supply chain security while developing advanced engineering capabilities across the entire Grupa Azoty Group,” said Mirosław Ptasiński, Vice President of Grupa Azoty.
The signed contract covers the development of a comprehensive design for an installation that will expand existing production capabilities through the launch of a second TNT production line. The investment is part of Nitro-Chem’s long-term development strategy, aimed at strengthening the country’s defense potential and ensuring continuity of supply of key products for the defense sector (Nitro-Chem Chemical Works signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation with the Grupa Azoty Group).
“The second TNT installation project is of key importance from the perspective of national defense. It is an investment that builds domestic competencies, increases supply chain resilience, and strengthens the role of Polish industry in the defense sector,” added Nitro-Chem Vice President Karol Przybyszewski.
The importance of the project is also underscored by its national and long-term dimension. The new second installation will be a significant step toward further developing the company’s technological capabilities and expanding its production infrastructure (Innovative partnership between PGZ and the Grupa Azoty Group).
“From a production perspective, the second TNT installation project is a breakthrough step in the company’s development. The investment will not only significantly increase production capacity, but will also ensure supply stability for domestic and international partners. The new installation will prepare us for further growth in demand in the defense sector,” emphasized Roman Jastrowski, Production Director at Nitro-Chem.
The project will also contribute to strengthening Nitro-Chem’s position as one of the leading explosives manufacturers on international markets, as well as to enhancing cooperation between key entities of the Polish chemical and defense industries. Design work by PROZAP will begin immediately in accordance with the schedule set out in the contract.
