On Thursday, April 9, 2026, the third day of FIDAE 2026, the largest defense exhibition in South America, held in Santiago, Chile, South Korean company Hanwha Aerospace signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Spain’s Indra Group to jointly offer armored vehicle solutions for the Chilean Army and to cooperate across Latin America (Hanwha’s comprehensive defense solutions from land to space at FIDAE 2026).

The ceremony was attended by Dong Hyeon Kim, Head of Hanwha Aerospace’s Land Systems Business Group; Domingo Castro Fernández, Indra Group’s Director of Defense and Security for the Americas; María Dolores Carrillo Aguilera, Business Development Director at Indra Land Systems; and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Chile, Hak-jae Kim.
Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly propose a solution for Chile’s next-generation armored vehicle program intended to replace the Mowag Piranha I fleet (the authorities in Santiago are interested in the ICV Stryker). Hanwha Aerospace will offer its modular Tigon armored vehicle platforms, while Indra will provide mission-system equipment, including communications, situational awareness, and C2 command-and-control systems, and will act as the regional coordination lead. Starting with Chile, the two companies intend to expand their cooperation under land programs across Latin America.
This cooperation marks a step beyond conventional equipment deliveries, as the two companies are offering a comprehensive package that integrates Hanwha Aerospace’s proven Tigon platforms with Indra Group’s mission-system technologies.
Dong Hyeon Kim, Head of Hanwha Aerospace’s Land Systems Business Group, said: “Indra has defense electronics capabilities and experience in Latin America that complement our vehicle platforms. Through this agreement, the two companies will be able to offer a more comprehensive package to the armed forces in the region.”
An Indra Group spokesperson noted that this partnership creates an optimal framework for combining the key technologies and areas of excellence of both companies into a competitive, state-of-the-art product capable of meeting the high level of demand in the region.
It is worth adding that recently, on March 24 of this year, Hanwha and Indra signed a binding memorandum of understanding on the development of state-of-the-art K9 Thunder self-propelled artillery systems tailored to the needs of the Spanish armed forces.
