On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, the “Latvia–Poland Strategic Defense Cooperation Day” conference was held in Riga. The event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Riga in cooperation with WB Group. Its aim was to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of defense, as well as to promote recognition of the Polish defense industry.
The event brought together political decision-makers, senior representatives of the Latvian administration, leaders of the defense industry, academic experts, as well as members of the diplomatic corps. Approximately 120 participants attended, including Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds and former Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis.
The event was opened by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Poland, Tomasz Szeratics, who pointed to the foundations of Polish–Latvian strategic cooperation: shared historical experience, a community of values, and a convergence in the perception of current geopolitical challenges. He also highlighted the growing importance of the defense industry for economic development and the complementarity of Polish and Latvian capabilities in selected fields, such as drone production.
Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds подчеркował the importance of the strategic partnership between Latvia and Poland and declared readiness to deepen cooperation in the defense sector in order to build a regional security architecture. As he emphasized, joint projects are key in this regard, as they would contribute to strengthening defense capabilities across all domains.
In the subsequent part of the event, academic experts took the floor, followed by Polish defense-sector companies, WB Group, Lubawa, Miranda, and Ponar Wadowice, which presented their offerings.
The closing panel discussion of the conference featured, among others, former Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis, former Minister of Defence Artis Pabriks, Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Economics Jurģis Miezainis, and Rafał Sordyl, Counsellor at the Security Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
