Another Russian-Ukrainian exchange of strikes — largest Russian attack in two weeks

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced another massive Russian missile and drone attack using 570 munitions, as well as strikes conducted against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation.

On Thursday, July 2, 2026, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that since the previous day at 18:00, Russia had conducted another air and missile attack using 570 munitions, the largest since June 15, with Kyiv as the primary strike direction, along with Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Sumy Oblast, where hits were recorded.

A characteristic feature of the massed attack is the simultaneous use of various types of air attack munitions from multiple directions, employing large numbers of ballistic missiles and jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles.

The Russians launched:

  • 4 3M22 Zircon hypersonic missiles from Kursk Oblast;
  • 24 Iskander-M/S-400 anti-aircraft ballistic missiles from Bryansk and Kursk oblasts;
  • 34 Kh-101 cruise missiles from strategic bombers over Vologda Oblast;
  • 8 Kalibr cruise missiles from vessels in the port of Novorossiysk;
  • 4 Kh-59 Ovod/Kh-69 guided missiles from multirole aircraft over Voronezh Oblast;
  • 496 Geran/Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas type unmanned aerial vehicles, S8000 Banderol cruise missiles, and drone decoys of various types (including Parodiya), launched from the directions of Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, the occupied Donetsk Oblast, and Hvardiyske in Crimea.

The attack was repelled by aviation, missile air defense forces, electronic warfare (EW) and unmanned systems units, and mobile air defense groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to preliminary data as of 09:00 local time, air defense systems shot down or forced to crash 524 targets, including 4 Iskander-M/S-400 missiles, 32 Kh-101 missiles, 8 Kalibr missiles, 4 Kh-59 Ovod/Kh-69 missiles, and 476 drones. Hits by 25 missiles and 12 drones were recorded in 33 locations, and drone debris fell in 18 locations. Kyiv Oblast: 2 people injured as a result of Russian shelling. Rescue workers operated at a total of 12 locations. A fire broke out at one of the industrial facilities. Private houses and vehicles were damaged. Elimination of the consequences of the Russian attack is ongoing.

Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs:

Emergency services are eliminating the consequences of the overnight Russian attack on Ukraine. Kyiv suffered the most, where part of a nine-story building was destroyed in the Darnytsia district. This was reported by Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.

Kharkiv Oblast: 4 people injured. In the village of Dovzhyk, Zolochiv municipality, a fire engulfed a farm: 10 calves were killed and a further 10 animals were injured. Rescue workers, a medical team, and a local paramedic attended all strike sites. The fires were extinguished.

At 2:06 a.m., the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command published the following announcement:

Attention. In connection with the activity of long-range aviation of the Russian Federation conducting strikes on the territory of Ukraine, military aviation has begun operating in Polish airspace.

In accordance with applicable procedures, the Armed Forces Operational Command has activated the necessary forces and assets at its disposal. Fighter aircraft have commenced operations, while ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have achieved readiness status.

These actions are preventive in nature and are aimed at securing and protecting airspace, particularly in areas adjacent to threatened regions.

The Armed Forces Operational Command is monitoring the current situation, and subordinate forces and assets remain ready for immediate response.

At 4:36 a.m., a further announcement was published:

Military aviation operations in our airspace, related to the Russian Federation’s strikes on Ukraine, have concluded. The activated ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have returned to standard operational activity.

We confirm that no violation of Polish airspace was recorded.

We thank NATO for its support, NATO Allied Air Command, and the French Air and Space Force, whose aircraft helped ensure security in Polish skies today. We also extend our thanks to the Dutch Armed Forces for their support with air defense systems.

The Polish Armed Forces are continuously monitoring the situation on the territory of Ukraine and remain in constant readiness to ensure the security of Polish airspace.

At the same time, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced strikes conducted against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation.

During the night of July 2, as part of efforts to degrade the military-economic potential of the Russian aggressor, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia. A hit on the facility was recorded, followed by a fire on the premises.

According to preliminary information, the AWT-6 crude oil processing unit was hit. The scale of the destruction is currently being assessed.

The Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery is one of the largest refining enterprises in the Russian Federation. The facility’s designed production capacity is approximately 17 million tonnes of crude oil per year.

The enterprise produces motor gasoline, diesel fuel, and aviation fuel, lubricants, and other products used in particular to support the needs of the Russian armed forces.
A drone base in the Kamyanka area of the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia Oblast was also struck.

A railway bridge over the Siverskyi Donets River in the Stanytsia Luhanska area was also hit. This facility is used by the Russians for logistical purposes and the transfer of personnel, weapons, and materiel.

A hostile command and observation post in the Vilshany area of the occupied part of Kharkiv Oblast was also struck.
