On Thursday, March 12, 2026, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Sweden’s Minister of Defense Pål Jonson, agreements were signed between the Swedish company Saab Defence and Securit, Polish Armaments Group, and WB Group. The agreements represent an important step in strengthening Polish–Swedish cooperation in the defense industry and in enhancing security in the Baltic Sea region.

The agreements were signed during the Baltic Sea Security Talks conference devoted to Baltic Sea security and strengthening the Polish–Swedish strategic partnership. The event is being held as part of the official state visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Sweden to Poland. Earlier, the defense ministers of both countries held an official meeting.
As the Swedish company Saab Defence and Security stated in its press release, “Signing these new agreements with both PGZ Group and WB Group marks important new milestones in strengthening collaboration between the Polish and Swedish defence industries. By sharing expertise and scaling up innovation together, we can ensure the development of advanced solutions and capabilities that will contribute to security and stability in Europe and the Baltic Sea region,” says Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab.
Saab’s new agreement with PGZ outlines the intention to cooperate on developing domestic capabilities for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of three A26 Blekinge-class submarines under Poland’s Orka submarine program.
“Ensuring full national sovereignty in the area of military equipment service capabilities is one of the state’s priorities and an integral element of PGZ Group’s cooperation model with industrial partners. Therefore, cooperation between PGZ and Saab, following the Polish government’s indication of the Swedish offer in the Orka new-generation submarine selection program, is of particular importance,” emphasized Marcin Idzik, Vice President of the PGZ Management Board.
The key objective of the partnership is to create the conditions for building and developing specialized technical, competency, and organizational infrastructure, which in the future will form the basis of national service capabilities for the new generation of submarines.
The initiative reflects the shared goal of the signatories – PGZ, PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, Stocznia Remontowa Nauta, the Research and Development Center of the Maritime Technology Centre, and Saab – to build modern and sustainable competencies within PGZ Group for maintaining A26-class submarines.
“Developing a new generation of industrial competencies related to the servicing and lifecycle support of future submarines in Poland is a challenge – one that requires a systemic approach based on knowledge and technology transfer and the consistent strengthening of human capital,” said Jan Grabowski, Vice President of the PGZ Management Board.
Today’s agreement continues the cooperation between PGZ and Saab. On January 9, 2026, a meeting of the management boards of Saab and Polish Armaments Group took place in Warsaw. During the International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce last September, the companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding forming the basis for cooperation, including in the maritime domain, and in October 2025 the Polish–Swedish Defence Industry Forum was held in Warsaw.
The new agreement with WB Group, in turn, covers the intention to cooperate on autonomous unmanned systems, including airborne reconnaissance-strike systems such as Gladius, as well as surface and land systems forming part of manned–unmanned platoon-level formations within the Future Task Force (FTF) concept. Saab had previously signed cooperation agreements with both PGZ and WB Group in September 2025. The agreements signed today represent further progress beyond those initial partnerships.
