BAE Systems
It was announced that BAE Systems and Huta Stalowa Wola (part of PGZ) signed a strategic cooperation agreement. John Borton, Managing Director of BAE Systems’ Weapons Systems Division, said: We have been working with HSW SA for 20 years, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to expand this important and valuable strategic agreement.
“We are continuing our cooperation on mutually beneficial initiatives and innovative capabilities to deliver value to our users, customers, and their allies, and to meet their requirements by ensuring success on the modern battlefield,” added John Borton.
HSW and BAE Systems have been working together since the mid-1990s. In 1999, the then Department of Armed Forces Supply of the Ministry of National Defence (now the Armament Inspectorate of the MoD), under the Regina divisional fire module program, decided to select the turret from the modernized 155 mm AS-90 Braveheart self-propelled howitzer by BAE Systems (originally armed with an L31 gun with a barrel length of 31 calibers), for which a new 52-caliber gun was developed (later replaced by a French Nexter Systems gun).
This resulted in the AHS Krab, which later received a Korean PK9/K9PL chassis from Samsung Techwin (now Hanwha Aerospace) with a German MTU MT 881 Ka-500 engine. The turret itself was equipped with new mechanical and electronic components, including systems produced by WB Group: the TOPAZ Automated Fire Control System and the FONET internal communication system (HSW has resumed deliveries of the AHS Krab to the Polish Armed Forces).
Saab Defence and Security
Later, the Polish Armaments Group announced on social media that it had signed a cooperation agreement with Saab Defence and Security. It was stated that both parties intend to jointly develop defense projects in the air, on land, and at sea. As added, this is a step toward stronger cooperation, the modernization of the Polish Armed Forces, and the security of both Europe and Poland.
The cooperation with the Swedish giant is to cover naval, ammunition, air defense, and unmanned projects, as well as joint efforts in support of war-torn Ukraine.
