On Friday, January 9, 2026, Polish Armaments Group (PGZ) announced that talks were held in Warsaw between its management and the Swedish company Saab Defence and Security regarding strengthening their existing cooperation in support of the Polish Armed Forces. The main topics included a review of the cooperation to date, opportunities to deepen it in specific domains, and extending collaboration into new areas.
“Polish Armaments Group is strengthening its position on the international market. This is supported by technological partnerships and business cooperation. That is why we are tightening our relations with the Saab Group, one of the key global players in the defense market,” said Adam Leszkiewicz, President of the Management Board of PGZ.
The visit of Saab’s CEO to Warsaw is also significant due to his role as Chairman of the Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe, a position held by Micael Johansson. In this context, both sides discussed joint projects as well as the activities of the European defense industry in the current geopolitical situation.
Saab is an important partner for the PGZ Group, also in light of the Polish government’s decision to acquire three submarines from Sweden for the Polish Navy. The PGZ Group also has solutions and ready-made products that are of interest to the Swedish side (Everything We Know About the Swedish Submarine for Poland’s Orka Program).
“Perhaps thanks to the SAFE program or other instruments, it will soon be possible, alongside the Swedish government’s record-breaking contract for Piorun systems from Mesko, to reach further agreements. We are constantly looking for export products and partners. In this respect, 2025 was a record year for PGZ, but more challenges lie ahead,” President Leszkiewicz concluded (Polish Ministry of National Defence Submits Applications to the European Commission Under the SAFE Program, DSEI 2025: Sweden becomes the next user of the Piorun MANPADS from Mesko).
Let us recall that on September 2, 2025 – the first day of the 33rd International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce – Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa signed a cooperation agreement with Saab. At the time, it was announced that both entities intend to jointly develop defense projects in the air, on land, and at sea. As added, this step was aimed at strengthening cooperation, modernizing the Polish Armed Forces, and enhancing the security of Europe and Poland. The cooperation is to include naval, ammunition, air defense, and unmanned projects, as well as joint efforts in support of Ukraine, which is currently at war.
In turn, on October 21, 2025, during the Polish–Swedish Defence Industry Forum, Zakłady Metalowe Dezamet – part of the PGZ Group – and Saab Bofors Dynamics Switzerland Ltd. (belonging to Saab Defence and Security) announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) expressing their shared intent to establish strategic cooperation.
In addition to the A26 Blekinge submarines, the Polish Ministry of National Defence has ordered Carl Gustaf M4 anti-tank grenade launchers from the Swedish company, Saab 340B AEW-300 airborne early warning and command aircraft (with the latest GlobalEye currently being offered), an ELINT electronic intelligence system, and the GAMER Comprehensive Battlefield Simulation System. It is also worth mentioning cooperation on the Project 107 Delfin electronic intelligence vessels program.
