Polish-Swedish Defense Industry Forum – A Joint Voice for Security

In Warsaw, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz met with Swedish Minister of Defence Pål Jonson and took part in the Polish-Swedish Defense Industry Forum.

On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in Warsaw, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz met with Swedish Minister of Defence Pål Jonson and took part in the Polish-Swedish Defense Industry Forum.

We are here at the Defense Industry Forum of the Polish-Swedish initiative. Everything has changed since Sweden joined NATO. From that moment, our history within the North Atlantic Alliance has taken a completely new course. Since then, all our activities have gained new momentum, especially in the Baltic Sea region, for which I would like to express my deepest gratitude. This is undoubtedly an important moment for Europe, for the world, and for the relationship between our two countries. When we stand together – in Warsaw, in Stockholm, in Brussels – Poland and Sweden are key partners, friends, and allies for each other, on whom other nations can rely, but above all, we can rely on one another. On behalf of the entire Polish nation, I would like to thank all those who have contributed to achieving such a high level of our relations, as well as thank the Swedish people – the Kingdom of Sweden – for their support, assistance, and for being steadfast allies,” said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz during the Polish-Swedish Forum for Security and Defense.

Subsequent agreements, cooperation, and actions related to the adoption of this deterrence and defense strategy, and, in fact, its effective implementation, show that it is necessary to clearly and explicitly define the strategic objectives for NATO and the European Union. Poland and Sweden can become even stronger leaders, both in the defense industry and in NATO’s security and operational strategy. (…) We highly value the presence of Swedish Gripens, the protection of Polish airspace, missions over the Baltic Sea, and deterrence operations against the Russian Federation’s air forces. (…) There is no other minister who has worked so intensively to advance Polish-Swedish understanding and allied cooperation within the North Atlantic Treaty. For that, I am deeply grateful. Sweden’s accession to NATO has transformed operational capabilities and simultaneously strengthened defense capabilities, including in the defense of Polish territory. For this, I am extremely thankful,” said the Minister of National Defense during the event.

The Forum is a manifestation of cooperation and dialogue aimed at strengthening ties in the area of security and defense. It marks an important step toward building a strong, resilient, and innovative defense-industrial base in the region. The event brought together nearly 200 representatives from the Polish and Swedish defense industries, as well as government officials.

During the event, in the presence of the defense ministers of Poland and Sweden, an International Cooperation Plan was signed, and bilateral talks between the two ministers were held.

Today, much will be said about industry and the cooperation between our companies. We have a new project within the European Union called SAFE – an initiative of our presidency aimed at using financial resources for the modernization of the armed forces and, above all, for the development of the defense industry. Poland is one of the biggest beneficiaries of this project. We are working intensively on the list of tasks and equipment-related issues that we want to include in it. We have until the end of November. The allocation for Poland amounts to 43.7 billion euros, which represents almost one-third of all funds designated for Europe – we are very interested in this. (…) What we need to improve are the mechanisms for joint procurement. The European Union will soon expect greater support for countries capable of cooperating in the modernization of their armed forces – that is, making joint purchases of the same type of equipment by at least two allies. We are open to this and believe that Sweden is our natural partner – just as we are a natural partner for Sweden. We share a similar mindset, a similar sensitivity toward the actions of the Russian Federation, and a comparable strategy toward Ukraine,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

The main areas of cooperation include collaboration between defense industries, security in the Baltic Sea region, protection of critical infrastructure, cooperation within NATO, and continued support for Ukraine.

It is a great pleasure to take part in the opening of this forum, especially here at the Polish Army Museum – a perfect place that reminds us of our shared history and our enduring commitment to defense. Our neighborhood across the Baltic Sea connects us not only geographically but also through our shared responsibility for the security of Northern Europe. We must be aware of the threats we face – increasing hybrid threats and risks to critical infrastructure, including undersea infrastructure. This requires a swift and decisive response. I am thinking not only of land capabilities but also of naval capabilities, which must be strong and ready to act. This, in turn, calls for closer cooperation and greater interoperability between our countries. That is why Sweden considers its partnership with Poland to be essential,” emphasized the Swedish Minister of Defense.
