On Thursday, April 16, 2026, Huta Częstochowa announced that it had obtained a license to manufacture and trade in products and technologies intended for military and police use. This is an important decision for the company, which had applied for the license and has now formally confirmed its authorization to operate in an area of strategic importance to the state. The license was issued by the Minister of the Interior and Administration (MSWiA).

For Huta Częstochowa, this means a significant strengthening of its ability to operate in the area of production and deliveries for sectors requiring the appropriate authorizations. The company remains an important link in the domestic steel industry, and the license it has obtained confirms its importance as a strategic plant for the Polish economy.
“This license has concrete business and development significance for Huta Częstochowa. It confirms our readiness to operate in an area important from the point of view of the state and industry, while at the same time strengthening the plant’s position as a strategic link in the Polish economy,” said Adrian Sienicki, President of the Management Board of Huta Częstochowa.
Huta Częstochowa is currently focused on further stabilizing production, improving processes, raising quality, and strengthening its market position. In the strategy of Węglokoks Group, the plant remains one of the key assets of the steel segment being developed.
It should be recalled that on December 22, 2025, a ceremony was held at Huta Częstochowa during which the Ministry of National Defense signed a notarial deed to acquire the company’s assets for the Military Property Agency. During the event, a letter of intent was signed between the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), Węglokoks, and Huta Częstochowa concerning cooperation in using Huta Częstochowa’s potential for the needs of the defense industry. It was reported at the time that the steelworks should receive the required permits to launch production of armor plates in January.

Since November 20, 2024, the steelworks had been owned by Węglokoks Capital Group, which took over the bankruptcy estate after Liberty Częstochowa, its owner since 2021, and then began rebuilding the plant’s production capabilities. In December 2024, a cold start-up of the steel plant and rolling mill was carried out; on January 10, 2025, the first trial heats were performed; and ten days later the steelworks resumed its full production cycle. During its first year of operation, the plant produced 260,000 tonnes of steel and delivered more than 239,000 tonnes of plate to customers in Poland and abroad, while also beginning to accept orders for delivery in 2026. It was reported at the time that talks with PGZ had begun.
On February 11, 2025, the Council of Ministers added the steelworks to the list of strategic enterprises. This opened the way for special state powers, including a pre-emption right for the Ministry of National Defense. On February 17, a tender for the sale of the steelworks’ assets was due to take place at the District Court in Częstochowa. The bankruptcy trustee postponed the hearing and asked whether the State Treasury wished to acquire the plant directly, without a tender, due to its strategic status. On March 10, the Ministry of National Defense submitted a letter to the court expressing its intention to exercise the pre-emption right.
