Following the completion of deliveries of 116 M1A1FEP tanks in 2024, the transfer of the latest M1A2 SEPv3 version began in 2025. Poland has already received 117 of the 250 vehicles ordered, with the entire process scheduled to be completed in 2026 – less than two years after the first delivery (Fourth delivery of M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams tanks to Poland).

At the same time, the foundations for industrial cooperation were established. In May 2025, Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne (WZM, Military Automotive Works) in Poznań and General Dynamics Land Systems finalized a framework agreement, and one month later a training program was launched covering WZM personnel in the operation and repair of Abrams tanks in the M1A1FEP and SEPv3 variants (Poland: Strategic Partnership Agreement Signed between Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne and General Dynamics Land Systems).
“The Abrams program in Poland is not limited to equipment deliveries. It represents real capabilities – maintenance, repair, training, and parts production – that translate into higher combat readiness for the Polish Armed Forces and strengthened NATO logistical resilience on the eastern flank,” emphasized Christopher Brown, Vice President for Global Strategy and International Business Development at GDLS.
In September 2025, GDLS announced the signing of eight agreements with Polish companies for the production of 52 unique components for Abrams tanks, opening opportunities for export and growth through access to the global market of thousands of vehicles produced by GDLS worldwide (MSPO 2025: GDLS locates production of M1 Abrams tank components in Poland).
The program is also attracting additional partners from the United States. BAE Systems signed a license agreement with WZM in April 2025 covering broadly defined maintenance of M88 armored recovery vehicles.
Allison Transmission has also begun cooperation enabling servicing, repairs, and overhauls of transmissions used not only in Abrams tanks but also in other key platforms operated by the Polish Armed Forces (WZM license agreement with Allison Transmission Inc.).
In November 2025, the 2nd Regional Logistics Base of the Polish Armed Forces signed a framework agreement with Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze No. 1 (WZL-1, Military Aviation Works No. 1) for the maintenance and repair of the AGT1500 Abrams engine manufactured by Honeywell. This is a key step toward establishing in Poland full technical support capabilities for the AGT1500 engine at the maintenance and overhaul level. To ensure continuous and immediate support for Abrams tank engines, U.S. Field Service Representatives (FSRs) are currently on site, supporting the operational Abrams fleet (WZL-1 awarded contract for servicing Abrams AGT1500 turbines).
The year 2026 will be another period of intensified industrial cooperation between the United States and Poland, supporting military vehicles in Poland and across the wider Central and Eastern European region.
The Regional Competence Center in Poznań at WZM will play an increasingly important role and, as the number of Abrams tanks in the region grows, will naturally become a support hub for allies as well. Tangible technology transfer, training, domestic industrial participation, spare parts production, and logistical sovereignty offer significant potential for strengthening cooperation.
“Team Abrams is a community deeply committed to Poland. Technology transfer, domestic industrial participation, and the capabilities being built in Poland are not requirements of contracts, law, or policy, but a benchmark for what is right – mutual industrial benefits between transatlantic partners and the creation of tangible, strategic capabilities for Poland and the Alliance,” said Christopher Brown, Vice President for Global Strategy and International Business Development at GDLS.
