The Presidential Couple continues their visit to Southeast Asia. On Thursday, June 12, 2025, President Andrzej Duda met with the President of the Republic of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam. The main topic of their talks was the economic cooperation between our countries.
The President of Poland extended his congratulations to his Singaporean counterpart on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Singapore’s independence, celebrated this year. “Since then, [Singapore] has experienced very dynamic development,” he said. He also emphasized that the visit to Singapore is important for the future of Poland’s international cooperation, particularly in the economic sphere, as Singapore is one of the most developed and rapidly growing regions of the world, where international trade is flourishing.
Andrzej Duda noted that today’s talks were largely focused on investment cooperation. “There are already several major investments being carried out or planned in cooperation with Singapore, and we hope there will be more. Singapore views the European Union in part through the lens of Poland and sees great potential for expanding its various business ventures,” he stated.
He argued that Poland is a very attractive destination for investment due to its dynamic growth and excellent pool of engineers. He pointed out that Poland is part of the Three Seas Initiative – a regional cooperation platform in our part of Europe, which is one of the fastest-growing regions in the world. “Tomorrow we have a roundtable business forum with Polish and Singaporean companies. We will certainly continue our discussions on these topics,” he emphasized.
The discussions between the Presidents of Poland and Singapore also covered cooperation in the areas of cybersecurity, defense, and new technologies. The Polish leader also encouraged greater interest in the offerings of Polish companies.
Visit to ST Engineering
In the morning, President Andrzej Duda visited the headquarters of ST Engineering, a company operating in the defense technology sector. “We hope that this company will cooperate with our entities. The Polish Armaments Group and WB Electronics have shown potential interest,” he noted. He also added that the Singaporean side is interested in the production of a combat vehicle—in cooperation with Polish companies—to replace the currently manufactured Rosomak, which is produced under a Finnish Patria license.
“Today we were shown various capabilities in port operations, and I must say this represents the highest level of technology currently available in the world. This company has also been present at the Kielce Trade Fair for several years. Therefore, we encouraged them to deepen their cooperation with Poland, and this was the main topic of today’s conversation at the company’s headquarters with its management,” he stated.
Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd is a diversified technology conglomerate employing over 27,000 people worldwide. It is actively expanding its operations in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. The company operates in the defense technology market, as well as in the fields of aviation, smart cities, defense, and public security.
ST Engineering regularly participates in the International Defence Industry Exhibition in Kielce, where it showcases its latest technologies and defense solutions.
The President of Poland was accompanied during the talks by Head of the International Policy Bureau Wojciech Kolarski, Deputy Head of the National Security Bureau for International Security Policy Mieszko Pawlak, and Presidential Advisor Rafał Kos.
Terrex
ST Engineering is the manufacturer of the Terrex family of wheeled armored vehicles. The first generation of these vehicles, known as the Terrex AV-81 and equipped with a 12.7 mm machine gun, has been in service with the Singapore Army (Tentera Singapura) since 2006, with a total of 435 units.

At the DSEI 2015 defense and security exhibition in London, the second generation of the vehicle—Terrex II—was presented. It was offered to the United States Marine Corps (USMC) as a replacement for the tracked AAV-7A1 amphibious vehicles (Amphibious Assault Vehicle, formerly LVT-7) under the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) program. However, it lost to the offer from BAE Systems and Iveco Defence Vehicles, who proposed a new vehicle based on the jointly developed British-Italian SuperAV/Freccia/Centauro platform. In April of this year, it was announced that the vehicle would be produced under license in Kazakhstan under the designation Terrex – Barys A 8×8.
The USMC was later also offered—unsuccessfully, as was the case with Australia—the third-generation AV-82 Terrex 3 (Sentinel II), developed jointly with Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC). Ultimately, 19 units were sold to Ghana.
The latest generation in the Terrex family, the Terrex s5, had its debut during the Singapore Airshow 2024 in February last year. More details about its design can be found here: Singapore Airshow 2024: Premiere of the Terrex s5.
It is worth recalling that on August 14, 2023, the Polish Armament Agency signed a framework agreement with the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ) for the delivery of several hundred Wheeled Armored Vehicles in a combat version, codenamed Serwal. PGZ is now seeking a foreign partner for the project, with potential interest previously expressed by Finland’s Patria with its AMV XP 8×8—once promoted as the Rosomak XP—and South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem with its N-WAV (Next-generation Wheeled Armored Vehicle).
