On Monday, January 19, 2026, the Ministry of National Defence of Poland announced that the seventh of eight Boeing AH-64D Apache attack helicopters leased from the United States Army has arrived at the 56th Air Base in Inowrocław, home to the 1st Army Aviation Brigade of the Polish Land Forces.
“We now have seven of the eight AH-64D Apache helicopters in Inowrocław that are being delivered to the Polish Armed Forces under a leasing arrangement. Timely deliveries of the aircraft give us confidence that the training of soldiers, pilots, and technicians will be carried out according to schedule. The modernization of the Polish Armed Forces means new deterrence and defense capabilities. It is a guarantee of a safe and strong Poland,” wrote Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on the social media platform X.
“The 56th Air Base in Inowrocław has been reinforced with another 🇺🇸 AH-64 Apache helicopter. This is already the seventh leased aircraft – thanks to them, the training of Polish pilots and personnel is being conducted at the appropriate level,” wrote Paweł Bejda, Deputy Minister of National Defence responsible for overseeing the technical modernization of the Polish Armed Forces.
Deliveries of the first AH-64D helicopters began on June 17, 2025, under an agreement signed on February 27 of the previous year, valued at approximately 300 million USD (1.184 billion PLN). The contract also covers operation and personnel training processes for the Polish Armed Forces during the leasing period. Transition training from the Echo to the Delta variant for pilots at the 56th Air Base in Inowrocław began on July 10 of last year with the first flight conducted by a Polish–American crew, supported by U.S. Army Technical Assistance Field Teams (TAFT). As early as July 25, the completion of the first phase of training was announced.
While the number of helicopters delivered in June was not disclosed initially, on September 25 last year, during a meeting of the standing subcommittee for the Polish defense industry and the technical modernization of the Armed Forces within the Sejm National Defence Committee, the delivery of four aircraft to date was confirmed, along with plans to complete all deliveries by the end of 2025. Subsequently, on October 30, another pair arrived, increasing the total to six. However, it was not possible to meet the deadline to deliver all aircraft by the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, on January 16 this year, Deputy Minister of National Defence Stanisław Wziątek took part in the inauguration of a non-commissioned officer course for candidates for AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopter pilots, conducted at the Polish Air Force University in Dęblin. The course began the previous day and includes an initial group of 10 soldiers. It comprises a total of 500 hours over two years, including simulator-based selection training, theoretical instruction, and flight training on Robinson R44 helicopters. Subsequently, training on the target aircraft type will be carried out in the United Kingdom and the United States. Poland has ordered 96 AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopters, with deliveries scheduled for 2028–2032.
