On Thursday, May 7, 2026, the Faculty of Cybernetics at the Military University of Technology (WAT) announced on social media that Officer Cadet (podchorąży) Bartosz Szumowski, a second-year cryptology and cybersecurity student, had been accepted to the elite United States Military Academy at West Point (USMA), the oldest military academy in the country. This is a major achievement for the Military University of Technology student.

According to the official notice of admission, signed by the Academy’s Superintendent, Gen. Steven W. Gilland, the officer cadet will join the Class of 2030 and become part of the process of developing future leaders of the U.S. Armed Forces.
This distinction is the result of a demanding, two-stage recruitment process, which included, among other elements, language proficiency testing – the TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language) at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw; the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) at the General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military University of Land Forces in Wrocław; and the U.S. standardized SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test), the equivalent of an entrance exam for higher education institutions in the United States. The candidate achieved a score higher than the other nominees taking part in the qualification process, earning 1,450 out of 1,600 points. The recruitment process concluded with an interview with representatives of the U.S. side.
According to information provided in an interview with Officer Cadet Bartosz Szumowski, the WAT student successfully passed a two-stage preselection process conducted by the Polish side, after which his candidacy was ultimately approved by the U.S. side. He emphasized that the SAT verifies practical skills and logical thinking rather than testing knowledge, as is the case with, for example, Poland’s matura exam. The SAT was conducted entirely in digital form and is divided into two sections: Reading and Writing, and Math.
As stated further, the so-called Reception Day at USMA West Point will take place on June 29 of this year, marking the start of intensive military training.
The editors of MILMAG wish Officer Cadet Bartosz Szumowski good luck and every success in the United States.
