On Monday, January 26, 2026, the Brazilian company Embraer (Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica) reported on a visit last week by a delegation from the Polish Armed Forces General Command (DG RSZ) to its facilities, where the KC-390 Millennium multirole transport aircraft and the A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft were presented.
According to the report, the delegation, led by the Deputy Commander of the Polish Armed Forces General Command, Major General (pilot) Ireneusz Nowak, familiarized itself with the aircraft platforms produced by Embraer Defense & Security, their tactical and technical capabilities, solutions for maintaining operational readiness and training, as well as the industrial and economic benefits they could bring to Poland.
In addition to touring the assembly lines for the KC-390 Millennium multirole transport aircraft and the A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft, the delegation also had the opportunity to fly both aircraft during demonstration flights and to exchange information with members of the Portuguese Air Force (Força Aérea Portuguesa, FAP), who were present at Embraer’s facilities. The Portuguese personnel shared their experience with the Millennium (initially five aircraft were ordered, of which four have been delivered, and later the option was increased by ten additional units), as well as with the A-29 ( twelve of which were ordered and two delivered).
It was also noted that the KC-390 transport aircraft will soon return to Poland to demonstrate its operational capabilities using military equipment belonging to the Polish Armed Forces. It should be recalled that an aircraft of this type was showcased at Chopin Airport on December 2, 2025, on the occasion of signing a cooperation agreement with five companies of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ): Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze Nr 1 (WZL-1), Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze Nr 2 (WZL-2), Wytwórnia Sprzętu Komunikacyjnego PZL-Kalisz, and Wojskowe Centralne Biuro Konstrukcyjno-Technologiczne (WCBKT). The C-390 Millennium proposal for Poland was also presented at the most recent MSPO defense exhibition in Kielce.
Poland is currently interested in acquiring heavier transport aircraft under the Drop program and transport-tanker aircraft under the Karkonosze program, with financing to be provided through the SAFE (Security Action for Europe) loan program.
During the December presentation, the Brazilian company also showcased the A-29 Super Tucano’s capabilities in countering unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), an area of interest for the Polish Armed Forces following the incursion of Russian drones into the country’s airspace in September last year.
C-390 Millenium
Since 2014, Embraer has secured orders for the C-390 Millennium from the following customers: Brazil (19 aircraft contracted, down from the originally planned 27), Portugal (six aircraft with an option for ten more), Hungary (two), the Kingdom of the Netherlands (five), Austria (four), the Republic of Korea (three), the Czech Republic (two), Sweden (four with an option for seven additional aircraft), and an undisclosed customer (two; possibly Morocco). In addition, Slovakia and Lithuania are each expected to order three aircraft, although contracts have not yet been signed. The aircraft is currently being promoted on the Saudi market, in India together with the Mahindra Group under the MTA program estimated at 40–80 aircraft, and more broadly across the Asian market. In summary, of the 47 production aircraft ordered to date, 14 have been delivered so far.
The aircraft is 33.5 m long, has a wingspan of 33.9 m, and a height of 11.4 m. Its maximum takeoff weight is 87 metric tons, with a payload capacity of 26 metric tons. The cargo hold measures 18.5 × 3.0 × 3.4 m. The range with a 23-ton payload is 2,815 km. Powered by two IAE V2500-E5 turbofan engines, each producing 139.4 kN of thrust, it has a cruise speed of 870 km/h and a service ceiling of 11,000 m.
A-29 Super Tucano
The A-29 Super Tucano is equipped with a precision target identification system, weapons systems, and a comprehensive communications suite. Its capabilities are further enhanced by advanced HMI avionics systems integrated into a robust airframe capable of operating from unpaved runways, in austere environments, and without dedicated infrastructure. Moreover, the aircraft features a simple maintenance concept that ensures high levels of reliability, availability, and structural integrity at low life-cycle costs.
Orders for the A-29 Super Tucano exceed 290 aircraft, which have accumulated more than 600,000 flight hours, including 60,000 hours in combat operations. At present, the aircraft is operated or will soon be operated by 22 countries, including the following disclosed users: Afghanistan, Angola, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Ghana, Honduras, Indonesia, Colombia, Lebanon, the Philippines, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, the United States, and most recently Uruguay, Paraguay, Portugal (the A-29N variant for European NATO member states), and Panama. In the past, the aircraft also attracted interest from Ukraine (Embraer A-29 Super Tucano for Sierra Nevada Corporation).
