“We’re heading to Brussels with the whole delegation, to NATO Headquarters for meetings with NATO defense ministers. (…) There will also be a series of bilateral meetings with my counterparts from NATO countries and the European Union, and a session of the UDCG, the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. A very important, leading topic for the meeting at NATO Headquarters is Eastern Sentry, the operation that has been ongoing since the airspace violation on the night of September 9–10 this year, after Poland invoked Article 4 – an allied response to Russian provocations. At our request, this operation was launched on NATO’s eastern flank; later we recorded airspace violations in Romania, Estonia, Denmark, Germany and other allied countries,” said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz before his flight to Brussels

“We will also talk about support for Ukraine, about the role in the coming months of both the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance for Europe’s security through supporting Ukraine. Another topic is major defense investments. (…) I will remind you that Poland is the largest beneficiary of the SAFE program. Of the 150 billion euro allocated for rearmament, to build defense production capabilities, Poland receives 43.7 billion euro. We are the largest beneficiary of the program, almost one-third of the funds go to Poland. Now, intensively across the whole government, together with Minister Domański, Minister Sikorski and all government agencies, we are working to prepare to absorb these funds, that is, to allocate them in the best possible way with the Armament Agency, of course, and with the Polish General Staff. (…) I also hope that we will be able to announce a strengthening of the Eastern Sentry operation, established for air defense, missile defense, counter-drone defense and the reinforcement of these allied capabilities. This is an absolute priority for us, which requires not only the engagement of countries on the eastern flank, but in fact all NATO countries and all European Union countries,” said Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Topics will include issues related to the security of NATO’s eastern flank and the use of European funds for security.
“Another subject is the ‘drone wall,’ EU actions, Commissioner Kubilius’s initiative and full support for that initiative, which must have no gaps, in which all eastern-flank countries must be engaged and should be obliged to do so. For the European Union, setting out such a security plan should be an absolute priority in the coming months and years. (…) In addition, bilateral meetings, for example with the UK defence minister, my counterpart from Lithuania, and partners from Finland and Portugal, are already planned. The Baltic Group, together with the UK, Canada and Germany with Poland’s participation, will also meet. We will also discuss agreements both with Ukraine, the Ukrainian defence minister will be present at these sessions, and with the Nordic and Baltic countries. This continues the Camp Jomsborg initiative we opened together with Norway, which serves as a training venue for Ukrainian soldiers and also as a drone-training facility for Polish and allied troops,” emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
“Our predecessors could at best, I’m not even sure they would have been able to, be as ambitious as we have been in implementing an ambitious plan to strengthen the capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces. Wrong, a complete miss, my colleagues from PiS have failed again. Stop the disinformation, stop these false reports. For the first time, the Ministry of Defense budget is the largest in history. The cancellation and slowing down of defense contracts. It was they who tore up the Caracal contracts. Mr. Macierewicz [Polish Minister of Defence in yeras 2015-2018 – translator’s note] canceled the multipurpose helicopter contract, prevented the offset from being implemented, and blocked the development of that capability in Łódź. I am the minister who continues, streamlines, and improves these efforts. For example, the FA-50 aircraft, which were supposed to be combat-trainers, were not flying, nor were they training aircraft or armed. In other words, they were not combat-capable when I took office. However, all of that has been fixed, thanks to the voters who supported us on October 15, 2023. My predecessors also overlooked infrastructure: helicopters and aircraft need to be kept in hangars, airports need to be expanded, roads need to be built, equipment maintenance and depreciation cost money, and buying equipment sometimes represents only 30% of total lifecycle costs. (…) They completely forgot about salaries, which, by my first decision, were immediately increased by 20%, whereas their planned rise was 12%,” said the defense minister.
