On Sunday, September 14, 2025, the National Security Bureau (BBN) announced that the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, had signed a decision granting consent for the presence on the territory of the Republic of Poland of a military component from foreign NATO member states as reinforcement of Poland within the framework of Operation Eastern Sentry. The President’s decision is classified.

On September 12, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Supreme Allied Commander Europe Gen. Alexus G. Grynkewich presented plans to reinforce NATO’s eastern flank in the face of Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine, announcing the operation codenamed Eastern Sentry.

United Kingdom:
- Details of the involvement have not yet been published (possibly Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4 aircraft, as mentioned in the Sejm by the Polish Minister of National Defence – editor’s note).
Sweden has also declared its willingness to participate.
NATO launched the reinforcement operation Eastern Sentry in response to the unacceptable Russian violations of Polish airspace. Sweden welcomes this step and is ready to take part in the coordinated efforts to strengthen deterrence & defence along the Alliance’s eastern flank.

In addition, the Kingdom of the Netherlands announced the accelerated deployment to Poland of two MIM-104 Patriot system batteries, a NASAMS air defense system, and a counter-drone system (to complement the four F-35A Lightning II already stationed there).

Moreover, Operation Eastern Sentry is to cover Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Finland, with the line of defense extending south along the Black Sea, according to Gen. Grynkewich, which likely also means Romania and Bulgaria.
