On Thursday, July 9, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka attended the annual Meeting of Heads of Polish Missions Abroad in Warsaw. The event brought together heads of Polish diplomatic missions from around the world, including ambassadors, consuls general, and directors of Polish Institutes.

“It is an honor for me to speak here once again, to exchange views, and to outline our joint efforts to ensure the security of the Polish state. ‘Diplomacy is the first line of defense’ is a phrase often repeated by Minister Sikorski. We attended the NATO Summit together, returned together, and jointly assessed its outcomes. Cooperation between the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will become even stronger in the coming months. Within NATO, we agreed to undertake more joint initiatives. Our respective areas of responsibility complement one another. Military attaché offices work closely with our diplomatic missions, and I would like to express my sincere thanks to all heads of mission and ambassadors for that cooperation,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said (Poland’s defense and foreign ministers hold press conference after NATO Summit in Ankara).
“Poland is now a leader in defense investment. This was one of the phrases heard most often at the NATO Summit. One measure of the success we achieved at the latest Summit was Poland’s place in the speaking order during the plenary session of the Allied gathering. This reflected our activity within the Alliance and our investment in collective defense. The host spoke first, followed by the presidency, and then the United States, Germany, and Poland. We spoke before the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, and other Allies. This shows how far we have come since 1999 and how much we have strengthened our position within the Alliance,” Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized.
Discussing the development of allied relations, the Minister of National Defence stressed that transatlantic ties are of fundamental importance to the security of Europe as a whole.
“Maintaining transatlantic ties is essential to security. I have had the opportunity to meet the U.S. Secretary of War four times in recent months. Poland will take part in the process of increasing the presence of U.S. forces on its territory, and we will contribute to that effort. Infrastructure investment and cooperation in the defense industry are moving forward. One example is the agreement signed between Poland and Anduril, which produces long-range cruise missiles. Production will begin next year,” the Minister of National Defence said, referring to the expansion of Polish-U.S. cooperation (Contract signed for production of SL Barracuda-500M cruise missiles in Poland).
The discussion with representatives of Polish diplomatic missions also covered defense policy priorities and tasks for Polish diplomacy over the coming year, based on the conclusions of the NATO Summit in Ankara.
“I would like to thank you very much for your work during the Polish presidency, which was the subject of our previous meeting. Thank you for the excellent results and for your tremendous commitment. We have now been implementing the SAFE program for almost a year. Let me begin with transatlantic relations between Europe and the United States. There has been a great deal of talk suggesting that SAFE is a source of disagreement. That is not true. In fact, the SAFE mechanism delivers precisely what President Donald Trump has called for: Europe taking responsibility for its own security, producing more equipment, and becoming better equipped. This is exactly what we are doing through the SAFE mechanism,” Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka emphasized during the discussion.
