The fire in the Puszcza Solska forest broke out on Tuesday, May 5. About 1,000 firefighters from the State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as more than 200 fire engines, were involved in extinguishing it. The fire has already been contained, but hotspots remain in the burned area and must be extinguished. Firefighters used drones to identify potential fire sources. The drones are equipped with thermal imaging technology, allowing them to operate at night as well. Police S-70i Black Hawks supported the firefighters by carrying out water drops.

Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński and Deputy Minister Wiesław Leśniakiewicz coordinated the activities of the services on site together with Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the leadership of the Ministry of Climate and Environment. Deputy Minister Wiesław Leśniakiewicz emphasized the importance of the firefighters’ dedication in fighting the blaze.
“I would like to thank the residents for their tremendous support and the volunteer firefighters of the Lublin region for their incredible dedication. Although the fear for homes was great, we defended them against the fire. I thank the firefighters who, in their free time, continuously and with full commitment, are here with us on standby. We are immensely grateful to you,” said Deputy Interior Minister Wiesław Leśniakiewicz.
AI to help fight crime, protect borders, and combat fires
Artificial intelligence will help services subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior and Administration fight fires and crime, and protect borders. Deputy Interior Minister Tomasz Szymański took part in the first meeting of a special AI team, during which he handed out appointments to experts who will help the services implement this innovative tool.
Artificial intelligence will revolutionize the work of the services. It will help firefighters rapidly detect smoke, analyze the direction of a fire, and optimally deploy forces, shortening response times by several dozen minutes. In the Police, AI will accelerate the analysis of recordings and documents and detect patterns in criminal activity. The Border Guard will use it to monitor borders and analyze biometric data.
