The academy will have the status of a public higher-education institution and will educate soldier-students within the military education system.
“Battlefield medicine and the experience of Ukraine show that we must invest in building up military medical forces and the military health service, and train as many doctors, nurses, and paramedics as possible so that they are ready to support the military system in times of direct threat, and in peacetime to serve all patients well,” the Minister of National Defence said at the conference.
Draft bill on the establishment of the Military Medical Academy
On 14 April 2026, the Council of Ministers adopted a draft bill on the establishment of the Military Medical Academy, submitted by the Minister of National Defence.
The draft provides for the establishment of the Military Medical Academy in Łódź, which is to begin operating on 1 July 2026. The purpose of the new institution is to train medical personnel for military service in various specializations, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, and pharmacists. The academy will have the status of a public higher-education institution and will educate soldier-students within the military education system.
The draft responds to the growing needs of the Polish Armed Forces and the military health service, which require qualified medical personnel. In addition, by establishing the Military Medical Academy, Poland aims to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities and support NATO in the medical support of military missions. The introduction of an independent military medical university is also intended to simplify the training process, which until now has been carried out by various institutions.
