On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the headquarters of the Armament Agency in Warsaw, a contract worth approximately 350 million PLN was signed between the State Treasury and Mesko, a member of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), for the delivery of several types of medium-caliber ammunition.
The contract covers the delivery of medium-caliber ammunition in the 23×152 mm caliber with APDS-T and FAPDS-T projectiles, as well as 30×173 mm ammunition with FAPDS-T projectiles to the Polish Armed Forces between 2026 and 2029.
“The contract signed today confirms that the ammunition manufactured by Mesko meets all the requirements of our largest user – the Polish Armed Forces. Production for the needs of the Polish Armed Forces has always been our top priority. Recent months have been a period of dynamic investment in infrastructure and production lines, which has enabled a significant increase in our production capacity in the medium-caliber ammunition segment,” said Renata Gruszczyńska, President of the Management Board of Mesko.
The order includes 23×152 mm cartridges with an armor-piercing, spin-stabilized sub-caliber projectile with tracer (APDS-T – Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot–Tracer), as well as a spin-stabilized sub-caliber projectile with a frangible core and tracer (FAPDS-T – Frangible Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot–Tracer).
APDS-T and FAPDS-T are modern types of ammunition designed to engage aerial, surface, and ground targets—including combat vehicles, armored vehicles—as well as fortifications and buildings. The lethality of the FAPDS-T projectile combines kinetic impact and fragmentation effects. This ammunition is intended for use with 2A14 cannons of the ZU-23, ZU-23-2 Hibneryt, ZU-23-4 systems, as well as the Pilica PSR-A anti-aircraft system.
The 30×173 mm ammunition with FAPDS-T projectiles, in turn, is used among others in Northrop Grumman ATK Mk44S Bushmaster II automatic cannons mounted on the Rosomak wheeled armored personnel carrier (with OTO Melara Hitfist-30P and ZSSW-30 turrets), as well as on the Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle. It is intended to engage targets such as aircraft, helicopters, lightly armored vehicles and armored personnel carriers, as well as light field fortifications.
