On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Ośrodek Badawczo-Rozwojowy Urządzeń Mechanicznych OBRUM of Gliwice, part of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), announced on social media that it had delivered to the Polish Armed Forces another overhauled and upgraded Engineering and Road Machine (MID).
The work was carried out under a three-year contract dated January 19, 2023, concluded with the Inspectorate for Armed Forces Support (IWsp SZ). The MID Engineering and Road Machines are sapper vehicles based on the PT-91 Twardy tank hull.
As stated, the work included modifications to the powertrain, increasing the engine output to 850 hp; upgrades to the hydraulic system to accommodate new work attachments (including a drill); modifications to the suspension locks, lighting, and driver’s panel; as well as updates to the control system and communications system. In addition, the systems for positioning the existing bulldozer blade were adapted, an auxiliary power unit (APU), GPS navigation devices, and a camera system were added.
The additional equipment significantly increased the functionality of the MID, as confirmed by the acceptance tests that were carried out. The vehicle is intended for performing key tasks on the battlefield, such as: securing troop movements, earthworks and fortification work, rescue and evacuation operations, mechanization of loading and unloading tasks, and freeing and towing combat vehicles.
The upgraded MID provides the ability to operate in: areas of both indirect and direct contact with the enemy; diverse terrain and weather conditions; environments contaminated by nuclear or chemical weapons; zones of mass destruction caused by the use of nuclear or conventional weapons; and areas affected by natural or environmental disasters.
The MID provides the military with operational autonomy and an immediate response to threats. Its design protects the crew thanks to, among other features: ballistic protection; a filtration and ventilation system with contamination shielding; fire-suppression and explosion-protection systems; and a laser-warning detection system.
Engineering and Road Machines are in service with engineering units. Prior to this delivery, the inventory included 8 MID vehicles and 1 MID-M vehicle.
