On Friday, March 27, 2026, the U.S. Army Contracting Command (ACC) in Newark, New Jersey, acting on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense, awarded a framework contract worth 884,878,799 USD to Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. of Plymouth, Minnesota (part of Northrop Grumman) for the production of 120 mm M1147 AMP (Advanced Multi-Purpose) HEAT-MP-T (High Explosive, Multi-Purpose, Tracer) programmable tank ammunition with tracer.
Importantly, in addition to the U.S. Army, the recipients of the ammunition are expected to include future customers under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. According to available information, Poland (an initial request for 960 rounds, followed by an additional 70,000, for a total of 70,960), Romania (5,940), Israel (32,739), and Bahrain (5,760) have decided to procure this ammunition.
Individual execution contracts will be concluded at a later stage, while the framework agreement remains in effect until March 28, 2031.
It is worth recalling that the M1147 AMP HEAT-MP-T ammunition was approved for Full-Rate Production (FRP) on December 20, 2024.
The M1147 AMP HEAT-MP-T is a next-generation munition developed by Northrop Grumman, intended to replace four older rounds: the M830 and M830A1, the M908 HE-OR-T, and the M1028 canister round. It is designed to engage personnel, light fortifications (e.g., 20 cm reinforced concrete walls), and lightly to moderately armored targets, including in airburst mode – detonating in the air at a programmed distance from the target.
