On Monday, February 9, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and the Armaments Agency announced on social media that a transport vessel carrying the fifth batch of M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams (System Enhanced Package version 3) tanks, out of a total of 250 ordered for the Polish Land Forces, had arrived in Poland from the United States.

“The first sea shipment of Abrams tanks in 2026 is already in Poland! Twenty-nine M1A2 SEPv3 tanks will reinforce the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade of the 18th Mechanized Division. Ultimately, there will be 250. Every day we strengthen the security of our country!” wrote Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on the social media platform X.
“And off they went… despite the freezing weather. The first shipment of M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams tanks scheduled for 2026 has arrived in Poland. Before they pass through the gates of the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade, the 29 tanks will undergo an extended initial inspection at the Military Automotive Works (part of Polish Armaments Group) in Poznań,” the Armaments Agency wrote on its profile, attaching a short video.
It is worth recalling that on December 1 last year, the fourth sea shipment from the United States arrived in Poland, comprising 32 M1A2 SEPv3 Abrams tanks. These joined previous deliveries made on September 11 (38 units), May 9 (19 units), and January 18 (28 units). With today’s delivery, this means that the U.S. side has now delivered 146 out of the 250 tanks ordered under the April 5, 2022 government-to-government contract valued at 4.75 billion USD.
The delivered vehicles undergo so-called deprocessing, an extended initial inspection following long-term sea transport, at the Abrams Regional Competence Center at Military Automotive Works in Poznań. In addition, the tanks are used for training soldiers at the Abrams Academy at the Centrum Szkolenia Wojsk Lądowych (Land Forces Training Center) in Poznań.
Meanwhile, as recently as Saturday, February 7, a new batch of tanks that had completed inspection was handed over to the end user — the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade in Wesoła. The day before, on Friday, February 6, Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne (WZM) completed the renovation of nearly 20,000 square meters of production hall space for the Abrams Regional Competence Center.
The latest-production M1A2 SEPv3 tanks complement the 116 previously delivered M1A1 FEP (Firepower Enhancement Package) tanks already in service. The last shipment of M1A1 FEP vehicles arrived in Poland on June 26, 2024, and the tanks were assigned to the 1st Tank Battalion of the 19th Mechanized Brigade in Żurawica and the 1st Tank Battalion of the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade. This means that the Polish Armed Forces now operate a total of 262 M1 Abrams family tanks out of 366 ordered.
In addition to the tanks, Poland has also ordered 49 M88A2 HERCULES (Heavy Equipment Recovery Combat Utility Lifting Extraction System) armored recovery vehicles, 25 M1150 ABV (Assault Breacher Vehicle) engineer vehicles, 25 M1074 JAB (Joint Assault Bridge) systems, and several weapons repair and vehicle maintenance workshop units.
A summary of the industrial cooperation program surrounding the Abrams tanks in 2025 is available here: Building Combat Readiness: A Year of Industrial Cooperation Around Abrams Tanks.
The Abrams fleet in Polish service is complemented by 180 K2GF Heuk-Pyo (Black Panther) tanks out of 360 ordered (including the future K2PL variant; part of a planned total of 1,000). These are intended to replace all T-72M1/M1R and PT-91 Twardy tanks, as well as 105 Leopard 2A5 tanks and Leopard 2A4 tanks being upgraded to the Leopard 2PL/M1 standard, of which 100 out of 128 planned have been delivered (under a contract with an option for 14 more, though the same number was transferred to Ukraine). In total, this amounts to 675 Western-type tanks in service, while approximately 100 T-72-family tanks and 172 PT-91 Twardy tanks remain in the inventory.
