Taurus TX9 – Modular and Ready for Service
The Taurus TX9 is an unexpected new entry that could achieve notable success in the striker-fired pistol market. Designed from the ground up and in some ways derived from the sport and recreational TX22 model, it is intended to be a pistol ready for the rigors of service use. Importantly, it incorporates the Taurus Modular System. Indeed, it is another pistol with a self-contained trigger mechanism module that can be easily transferred between different grip modules (frames).

Features of Taurus TX9
The Taurus TX9 is a pistol of a proven design, featuring a polymer frame and a striker-fired trigger mechanism. Even aside from its modularity, the “frame” made a positive impression in terms of ergonomics and grip. The grip features a comfortable angle, a convenient undercut beneath the trigger guard, and a properly shaped rear section that effectively protects the shooter’s hand from the moving slide. This will be appreciated by shooters with larger hands. It is not a design with the lowest possible bore axis, but this characteristic is often overlooked by many professional shooters. The slide is sufficiently tall and well-serrated to ensure a secure grip during manipulation – an important feature for a service pistol, which the TX9 is intended to be.
- Among the notable features of the TX9 frame are also:
- interchangeable backstraps,
- extensive use of aggressive texturing (on the front of the trigger guard, the finger area above it, and across most of the grip surface),
- a standard Picatinny rail for accessories.
When designing the TX9, Taurus took prevailing market standards into account and did not attempt to deviate from them. As a result, the new pistol uses iron sights compatible with the Glock standard, opening access to a wide aftermarket of replacement options. The pistol also includes a red-dot mounting interface in the proprietary T.O.R.O. standard, which has already been used in previous Taurus pistols and revolvers.

Taurus offering is getting even more interesting
The days when Taurus offered only pistols derived from the Italian Beretta 92 and revolvers are long gone. The manufacturer, which has Brazilian roots, now operates its own factory in the United States and continues to introduce new products aimed at the institutional market. The T4 rifles have achieved notable success in both civilian and military use, so it remains to be seen how the TX9 will perform. Observing the manufacturer and having had the opportunity to handle its latest products firsthand, I get the impression that a lot of good can be expected.
