Contract for MSBS Grot A3 assault rifles for the Polish Armed Forces

The Armaments Agency of the Poland’s Ministry of National Defence signed a contract with Fabryka Broni Łucznik-Radom, part of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), for the delivery of 5.56mm MSBS Grot A3 assault rifles.

On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, the Armaments Agency of the Ministry of National Defence signed a contract worth nearly 600 million PLN with Fabryka Broni Łucznik-Radom, part of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), for the delivery of nearly 46,000 units of the 5.56mm MSBS Grot C14 A3 assault rifle in 2026-2027, after their technical documentation was approved at the beginning of the month (Polish Grot A3 Assault Rifle Nears Completion).

The contract was signed at the company’s headquarters by Fabryka Broni Łucznik-Radom President of the Management Board Seweryn Figurski and Board Member Jakub Czułba, and Head of the Armaments Agency Major General Artur Kuptel, with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Secretaries of State at the Ministry of National Defence Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka and Cezary Tomczyk, Deputy Minister of State Assets Konrad Gołota, and President of the Management Board of the Polish Armaments Group Adam Leszkiewicz.

The signed contract is the next stage of deliveries of MSBS Grot family assault rifles to the Polish Armed Forces. To date, the Polish Armed Forces have received nearly 237,000 units of this weapon, which is in service across various branches of the armed forces. A previous contract is also being executed in parallel, under which deliveries are planned through 2029. The new contract will ensure continuity of supply of additional MSBS Grot A3 assault rifles to the Polish Armed Forces.

The signing of another contract confirms that the MSBS Grot family assault rifles remain an important element of the technical modernization of the Polish Armed Forces. For Fabryka Broni, this is a confirmation of trust in the quality of our products, the competence of our team, and the ability to deliver orders for the Polish Army on time. We are pleased that the latest version of the MSBS Grot assault rifle will support Polish soldiers in carrying out their missions,” said Seweryn Figurski, President of the Management Board of Fabryka Broni Łucznik-Radom.

This is a great day. It is a day of truth, a day of demonstrating our effectiveness, our shared effectiveness, and that of those who produce the finest weapons in Poland, in the Polish Armaments Group and Fabryka Broni ‘Łucznik’ in Radom. The Grot A3 is now a reality. It received certification a few days ago issued by the Head of the Armaments Agency, General Artur Kuptel, and now it is being ordered by the Polish government for the Polish Army. This is a great day for Radom, a great day for our security. A day of truth in the face of those who tried to sow confusion, manipulation, and reluctance to invest as much as possible in Polish armaments,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

This assault rifle was developed with significant participation from the Polish Armed Forces, for which I would like to extend my sincere gratitude, particularly to General Stańczyk, Commander of the Territorial Defence Forces. It was the soldiers who very often passed on information about what needed to be improved, what to change, and how to prepare the next version. The A3 version is the best so far. Perhaps not the last, but currently the best. I would also like to thank the President of the company for not changing the price and for keeping the price of the A2 and A3 versions the same. This shows that competitiveness on the global market can also be built through an attractive price. Our task is to open new markets. This is the expectation of the State Treasury and the Polish government – that Polish companies do not produce exclusively for the Polish Armed Forces. We want the Polish defense industry to be a driver of the economy, a source of economic growth, prosperity, and security for all Polish families,” emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

The SAFE program is an investment not only in our security, but also in our economy. Today, Radom’s ‘Łucznik’ is one of the largest employers in Radom. It cooperates with dozens of suppliers from the region. I am also very pleased, particularly in my new role, that the work on the Grot A3 progressed the way I believe procurement for the Polish Armed Forces should proceed. That is: soldiers say what the equipment should look like, and factories adapt their production accordingly. That is what we will strive for. That is how activities on behalf of the Polish Armed Forces should look,” noted Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka.

We express deep satisfaction at the signing of today’s contract. We will produce over 46,000 Grots in the latest A3 version for the Polish Armed Forces. Thanks to numerous technological investments and large production capacity, Fabryka Broni will execute this order efficiently. The MSBS Grot is a weapon not only designed and produced in Poland. At every stage of its development, we listened carefully to the opinions of its users, primarily Polish Armed Forces soldiers. The latest and most advanced A3 version is the joint fruit of the work of designers and soldiers, and today’s contract enabling the introduction of Grot A3 into the Polish Armed Forces is the result of the joint efforts of the management boards of Fabryka Broni Radom and PGZ S.A. We also thank the Armaments Agency for the contract and thus for the trust it has once again placed in the Polish Armaments Group. We also hope that in the near future Fabryka Broni will be able to equip the services subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration with Grot assault rifles as well,” said Adam Leszkiewicz, President of the Management Board of PGZ.

We have the production and organizational competencies that allow us to effectively respond to the needs of the Polish Armed Forces. Modern technologies, appropriate production capacity, the highest quality standards, and professional and experienced employees — all of this allows us to practically immediately begin deliveries of MSBS Grot assault rifles in the new A3 version,” emphasized Jakub Czułba, Board Member of Fabryka Broni Łucznik-Radom.

The A3 variant

The Grot A3 was developed as the result of a dialogue between the manufacturer and soldiers, incorporating feedback from the operational use of earlier versions. At first glance, the Grot A3 is distinguished by a redesigned stock adapter enabling the mounting of AR-15 standard solutions, and a barrel shortened to 368 mm (14.5 inches). A new, slimmer handguard has also been introduced. As part of these changes, the weapon’s weight was reduced to approximately 3.4 kg.

To increase durability, a nitriding treatment was proposed for weapon components. Parts finished in this way (such as the bolt carrier, gas block with regulator, barrel extension, charging handle assembly, and trigger mechanism components) will be more resistant to wear of protective coatings and corrosion. The gas block was also modified by redirecting the gas ports forward along the rifle, minimizing fouling of the weapon itself as well as the user’s hand, and should not contribute to handguard overheating.

Another change was the removal of one window in the front section of the receiver, which is intended to improve the weapon’s handling characteristics. The position of the holes used to mount the rear receiver cap was also reversed. This modification enabled changes to the stock adapter, increasing the rigidity of its connection to the receiver assembly. The bolt catch lever was redesigned to eliminate the possibility of disassembly when the bolt carrier group is in the rearward position.

The Grot’s gas regulator was also redesigned by introducing a new detent that prevents accidental removal of this component, for example as a result of an impact or snagging on a sling. Furthermore, the gas piston and piston rod were redesigned, combining these two components and enabling them to be withdrawn forward after the regulator has been removed. Previously, cleaning the piston rod required unscrewing the entire barrel assembly (GROTowisko 2024: Grot A3 and Other Innovations).
