On Friday, January 16, 2026, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) of the United States Air Force Logistics Command, based at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts, acting on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense, awarded a contract worth 68,514,158 USD to Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems of Liverpool, New York (a part of Lockheed Martin), for the delivery of three AN/TPY-4(V)1 long-range air surveillance radars under the 3DELRR (Three-Dimensional Expeditionary Long-Range Radar) program.

The contract modification also covers associated production management costs, delivery costs, and other direct expenses arising from the contract. The amendment increases the total cumulative nominal value of the base contract from 485,548,093 USD to 554,062,251 USD. Work will be performed at Lockheed Martin facilities in Liverpool, New York. Completion is scheduled for March 16, 2027. Funding is provided entirely from FY2026 Other Procurement funds and was fully obligated at the time of contract award.
Work on the AN/TPY-4(V)1 radar began in the early 2010s, with a prototype ready for testing in 2021. The first low-rate initial production radar was completed in May 2022 and delivered in 2023. The manufacturer announced deliveries of full-rate production units on April 7, 2025. The user is the United States Air Force (USAF).
The USAF plans to acquire 35 production radars to replace the older AN/TPS-75 systems. For operational testing purposes, however, 10 systems were procured: three systems on September 13, 2021; three systems on January 18, 2024, for 65,105,306 USD; and four systems on June 18, 2024, for 81,297,720 USD.
The first export user of the system will be Norway under the NORSE (NOrwegian Radar SEnsor) program, which ordered a total of 11 radars under contracts signed on November 17, 2022 (four systems) and September 11, 2024 (eight systems). Deliveries were scheduled to begin at the end of 2025.
The next customer will be Sweden, according to information released on June 4, 2025, although the number of systems was not initially disclosed; it later emerged that two were ordered. On December 16, 2025, the United States announced that Denmark had decided to purchase three systems, with an option for four additional units. Interestingly, the announcement stated that Denmark would be the fifth user of the system, although the fourth customer has not been publicly identified.
The AN/TPY-4(V)1 radar features an AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) antenna with gallium nitride (GaN) transmit/receive modules, operating in the L-band. Its missions include airspace surveillance, detection of unmanned aerial systems with reduced radar cross-sections, missile defense, and air traffic control.
When rotating at six revolutions per minute, the antenna provides 360-degree coverage with a maximum detection range of 555 km. In a fixed mode, it offers 90-degree coverage with a maximum detection range of up to 1,000 km. The TPY-4 radar can detect and track targets flying at altitudes of up to 30 km, as well as surface targets down to –6 degrees, supporting maritime domain awareness.
