On Thursday, February 12, 2026, it was announced on LinkedIn that PGZ Stocznia Wojenna and WCBKT S.A. – Central Military Bureau of Design and Technology (Wojskowe Centralne Biuro Konstrukcyjno-Technologiczne), both subsidiaries of the Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), had signed a contract for the design and delivery of containerized power converter units for the multi-role missile frigates under the Miecznik program.
Wojskowe Centralne Biuro Konstrukcyjno-Technologiczne WCBKT will design, manufacture, and install two power converters, each with a minimum capacity of 950 kW, housed in 40-foot maritime-standard containers. The project will also include medium-voltage power supply infrastructure and a cabling system enabling efficient connection and disconnection of the vessel from shore-based power sources.
The solution will allow the frigates to be powered from shore while docked in port, contributing to higher operational readiness and reducing the load on onboard power systems.
Wojskowe Centralne Biuro Konstrukcyjno-Technologiczne WCBKT is a Warsaw-based company with more than 50 years of experience in designing and manufacturing equipment for the armed forces. It specializes in ground support equipment for aircraft and is the only company in Poland capable of comprehensively equipping military airfields with support infrastructure.
“WCBKT has for years cooperated with American partners on aviation and land-based projects; now, together, we are opening a new chapter in naval defense programs. As companies of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A., we demonstrate that we are capable of meeting the requirements of the Polish Navy even in the most technologically advanced projects,” said Marcin Ryngwelski (MBA), President of PGZ Stocznia Wojenna.
“Wherever possible, we rely on Polish partners. This is an investment in domestic technical competencies and in strengthening security of supply in strategic defense projects,” PGZ Stocznia Wojenna stated.
Under the Miecznik program, PGZ Stocznia Wojenna is building three modern Project 106 frigates – Wicher, whose bow section was delivered from Stocznia CRIST on December 6 for hull integration; Burza, whose keel was laid on December 18; and a third vessel, Huragan, which is planned. The ships are based on the Arrowhead 140 design developed by Babcock International. Other key foreign partners include Thales UK and MBDA UK. The vessels are intended to form the backbone of a modern Polish Navy, particularly in the fields of maritime defense and anti-submarine warfare.
