Vortex presents the Veil 400 thermal monocular

The image in the Veil 400 is generated by a 400×300-resolution sensor, which is intended to provide clear target silhouettes for such a small device. Image quality is also enhanced by a 12 µm pixel pitch, designed to provide an advantage when observing targets at longer distances. The device offers 2.3x magnification. The Veil 400 also has an integrated compass, displayed at the bottom of the image.

On the 1024×768-resolution OLED display, the image can be presented in four different color palettes, according to the user’s preferences:

• Black Hot,
• White Hot,
• Red Hot,
• Multicolor.

In addition to the color palettes themselves, the user can also configure the image in three specialized modes:

• Balanced – for regular observation and scanning;
• Contrast – when the target is partially obscured by obstacles;
• Brush – for observation in dense vegetation.

Photos or video from the thermal imager can be saved with a single button.

The power source is a popular and widely available 18650 battery, which can be charged inside the device via a USB-C cable. Vortex Optics includes two batteries and a dedicated charger for them in the set.
