The SAWO International Fair of Occupational Safety, Fire Protection, and Rescue Services is held every two years in Poznań and is the largest occupational health and safety event in Central and Eastern Europe.
Day One
During the first day, a conference was held by the National Labour Inspectorate and the Regional Labour Inspectorate in Poznań: Vision Zero – From Awareness to Action. How Can Employee Engagement Be Built in Improving Working Conditions?
Cooperation, dialogue, and engagement are the foundation of a safe working environment. For years, the National Labour Inspectorate has been taking steps to promote best practices, provide education, and support employers and employees in building high occupational safety and health standards. During the opening of the conference, Chief Labour Inspector Marcin Stanecki outlined the mission of the National Labour Inspectorate. This year, conferences are being held in every district. Poznań is the second district in the series. Each conference focuses on different issues. Sixteen districts mean sixteen different observations, comments, and remedies in the fight against workplace accidents in Poland.

“Vision Zero is a vision that has the characteristics of a workplace philosophy of life. It goes beyond machine guards or certified helmets. We believe that genuine and lasting employee engagement arises only where the pillars of technical safety, physical health, and psychosocial well-being are harmoniously integrated,” the Chief Labour Inspector said.
Discussions and networking
The next items on the agenda were two thematic panels, First Aid and Ergonomics, featuring experts Karol Bączkowski, Tomasz Kutycki, Adrian Zadorecki, Mirela Motyka, Dariusz Tokarczyk, Maciej Żłobiński, Mirosław Bzura, and Barbara Tokarczyk. The discussions were moderated by Artur Lipowicz.

During the first day, there was also a strong Italian presence. Confindustria Polonia organized an Italian-style networking event aimed at launching and presenting the “Safety in Action” project, which includes a series of events in various cities across Poland devoted to the key area of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Safety culture
The conference and workshops organized by the Safety Culture Foundation were further events intended to familiarize participants with proven international approaches to workplace safety, as well as with how neuroscience helps shape safe behaviors and better decision-making in the workplace. The event presented the most common mistakes and pitfalls in safety management, along with current challenges. There was also a discussion among experts and business leaders, who shared their experiences and proven solutions. Awards titled “Faces of Safety” were also presented, honoring individuals who are genuinely changing the approach to safety in Poland. The workshop “Emotional Support as an Element of Building a Safety Culture,” in turn, was aimed at people with experience of accident situations, those working on post-accident teams, and those wishing to consciously build a culture of safety and support.

Expert presentations
The conference “Practical Workshops on the Selection of Personal Protective Equipment and Protective Gear” was opened by Dr. Eng. Józef Witczak, President of the Main Board of the Nationwide Association of OHS Service Employees. The event addressed the importance of using personal protective equipment to protect health, followed by presentations on Hazard Identification in the Work Environment, Occupational Risk Assessment, and The Importance of Measuring Harmful Factors in the Work Environment to Confirm Hazards. A representative of the delegation of occupational health and safety personnel from Romania also delivered a presentation: Adrian Ispasoiu, President of ARSSM.

A folder of inspiration
On the second day of the fair, a conference was held, organized in cooperation with the Central Institute for Labour Protection – National Research Institute and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA): OHS Pulse 2025: Employees and Employers in a World of Pressure, Digitalization, and Climate Change.
“Meetings accompanying the fair complement presentations of the latest solutions and technologies with knowledge derived from research and the institute staff’s research experience,” said Agnieszka Szczygielska, Director of the Central Institute for Labour Protection – National Research Institute, at the opening.
The conference was intended to answer the question of what currently matters most in the field of workplace safety. OHS Pulse highlights the issues currently shaping occupational health and safety in Europe. The conference created a platform where different strengths and perspectives came together: scientific, practical, inspection-related, and administrative. During the conference, the latest data from the “OHS Pulse 2025” study (EU-OSHA) were presented, showing the condition of Polish workers against the broader European backdrop, as well as the key challenges currently facing employers and occupational health and safety services.
Experts discussed, among other things, changes in anti-bullying regulations, the impact of demographics and age management on the labor market, and the importance of employee competencies for workplace safety. The program also included presentations devoted to psychosocial risk factors, such as psychological violence in the digital work environment, digital fatigue, information overload, and burnout, as well as methods for managing psychosocial risk in organizations.
“It should be mandatory for employers to develop an anti-bullying procedure. The absence of such procedures should be classified as an offense in the legal sense,” Chief Labour Inspector Marcin Stanecki said during the conference.
“I am glad that, through this meeting, we can add this small brick to your folder of inspiration, which you will take home with you from this fair,” Agnieszka Szczygielska concluded.
BHP SAWO Fashion Show
The first fashion show in the fair’s history, the BHP SAWO Fashion Show, took place on the second day of the event and immediately attracted crowds of interested attendees. The latest technological solutions, safety, fabrics that do not restrict movement, and aesthetics were just some of the features of the collection items presented by models on the runway set up in front of the SAWO main stage. The following companies presented their clothing and accessories collections: Bennon Group S.A., CWS Workwear Polska sp. z o.o., Mewa Textil-Service SE & Co. Management OHG, Milwaukee, and PIP Global Safety.
Held alongside SAWO were the SECUREX International Security Fair and the INSTALACJE International Installations Fair, creating an opportunity for an even broader exploration of solutions capable of creating a safe and efficiently functioning environment both for living and for work. Thanks to attending this group of fairs, visitors had an opportunity to learn about ways of creating modern, intelligent workplaces in which technology actively supports the protection of workers’ health and lives.
