On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the U.S. company Textron Systems Corporation (a subsidiary of Textron Inc.) announced that it had received a 163.4 million USD order to deliver a batch of 65 MSFV (Mobile Strike Force Vehicle) Commando Select wheeled armored personnel carriers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Contracting Command (ACC) at Detroit Arsenal in Michigan, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense. Funding for its execution comes from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program for Ukraine.
The three-year firm fixed-price contract covers the manufacture and delivery of new vehicles at Textron Systems Corporation facilities in Slidell, Louisiana.
“Textron Systems has delivered hundreds of COMMANDO vehicles to the U.S. Army over the last two decades,” said David Phillips, Senior Vice President Air, Land and Sea Systems. “The COMMANDO Select has demonstrated support to soldiers, serving as a combat-proven armored personnel carrier performing secure personnel movement, military police and constabulary operations as well as command and control operations to support ground mobility missions.”
These will be additional vehicles of this family to enter service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The first 65 vehicles were contracted on September 25, 2025, for 163.38 million USD.
The MSFV was developed by Textron Marine & Land Systems for the U.S. Army, originally to meet the requirements of the Afghan National Army (ANA), with 634 units based on the M1117 Guardian 4×4 wheeled armored personnel carrier. The M1117, in its infantry carrier version, had previously already been delivered to Ukraine, including under the 71st military aid package of September 25, 2024. That package included 150 additional vehicles, which entered service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine in March of last year (with 250 units having been promised earlier).
The MSFV serves as a combat support vehicle for troop transport, reconnaissance, and fire support. It provides mobility in difficult terrain and protection against fragments, small-arms fire, and mines thanks to a V-shaped hull. It includes variants equipped with a turret armed with a 12.7 mm M2 Browning machine gun or a 40 mm Mk 19 automatic grenade launcher, as well as 7.62 mm M240 or 5.56 mm M249 machine guns, in addition to an armored ambulance and an armored personnel carrier.
The MSFV Commando family includes the Select, Elite, and Vanguard variants. The Select variant has a three-person crew, carries a seven-man dismount team, and has a gross vehicle weight rating of 18.1 metric tons. Powered by a Cummins 6CTA8.3 diesel engine, it reaches speeds of up to 100 km/h on roads and has a driving range of 644 km (at an average speed of 64 km/h). The vehicle can negotiate obstacles up to 560 mm high, side slopes of 60%, gradients of 30%, and anti-tank ditches up to 1,524 mm wide.
