On Friday, June 5, 2026, the U.S. Department of State approved the potential sale to the Republic of Korea of a package of JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) guidance kits for aerial bombs, worth up to 106 million USD.

According to the published notice, the government in Seoul requested the possible acquisition of:
- 708 KMU-557 guidance kits for conversion into GBU-31 JDAM guided bombs, consisting of a 907-kg Mark 84 general-purpose bomb;
- 58 KMU-572 guidance kits for conversion into GBU-38 JDAM guided bombs, consisting of a 227-kg Mark 82 general-purpose bomb.
The request also included the following non-MDE (Major Defense Equipment) items: weapons support equipment; U.S. government and contractor, Boeing, engineering, technical, and logistics services; and other related elements of logistics and program support.
