Smith & Wesson M&P Shield X – better grip
The Smith & Wesson Shield is a line of pistols designed for concealed carry. The Shield X is expected to offer even greater ergonomics thanks to a slightly longer grip and slide — and consequently, a longer frame. The frame now includes a section of standard Picatinny rail, allowing the mounting of flashlights and lasers from a wide range of manufacturers.
M&P Shield X Features
Slide assembly
What immediately stands out are the aggressive serrations on both the front and rear of the slide, which features the rounded contours characteristic of S&W. Less noticeable at first glance, but highlighted by the manufacturer, is the ClearSight Cut: a special slide design that redirects muzzle gases away from the optic window. The optic is mounted on a cut compatible with the Shield RMSc/K standard. The iron sights include an Ameriglo Trooper front sight with a LumiGreen ring and tritium insert, paired with a plain black rear sight. The rear sight is shaped to allow for one-handed slide manipulation using gear or environmental surfaces.
The slide is made from stainless steel and finished with Armornite coating.
Frame assembly
The polymer frame features very smooth contours and light texturing in the grip area and above the trigger guard. A distinguishing feature of the Shield X compared to other S&W subcompacts is the inclusion of a Picatinny rail, allowing for the attachment of accessories from various manufacturers. Two models are available, differing in the presence of a frame-mounted manual safety.
The slightly curved trigger is protected by a wide trigger guard with a flat front face. The slide stop and takedown lever are located on the left side of the frame, while the magazine release can be reversed for left-handed use.
The Shield X comes with two box magazines, with capacities of 13 and 15 rounds.
