The Nemo Arms Omen is a groundbreaking design in its niche. Derived from the proven AR-10 platform, it is chambered for extremely powerful magnum-class ammunition such as .300 Winchester Magnum, widely used in long-range shooting. The Omen family is also well suited to long-range Western hunting in the United States, which involves extensive tracking of game and precise shots taken at distances of several hundred meters.

Adapting the design to this class of ammunition required engineers to significantly “lengthen” the entire system. It is worth noting here that the case length of 7.62×51 mm NATO ammunition (typical for the AR-10) is 51 mm, whereas for .300 Win Mag it is 67 mm. Seemingly a small difference, but in ammunition terms, a very large one.
Omen rifles operate on the same principle as their progenitor. Gas is vented through a side port in the barrel and routed via a long gas tube into the bolt carrier group (bolt and carrier). As the gas expands inside the carrier, it unlocks the bolt and cycles the action. This is the classic internal-piston system, more commonly known as direct impingement. The bolt carrier is closely similar to that of the AR-10 but features an integrated spring buffer at its rear, designed to reduce recoil, a solution patented by Nemo Arms. Another distinctive feature is the adjustable gas system, which is crucial when using different types of ammunition and sound suppressors. While most designs offer adjustment across only a few settings, Omen rifles provide as many as 48 positions. This allows for precise tuning of the system to ensure reliable operation without excessive gassing.
Omen rifles are offered in several versions, with barrel length as the key variable. These include the competition-oriented Match model with a 22-inch barrel, the Woodsman with a slightly shorter 20-inch barrel, the Patrol with an 18-inch barrel for easier transport, and the Nitemare with an exceptionally short 8-inch barrel. According to the manufacturer, the Nitemare is not intended for practical use; it is a limited edition whose primary purpose is to impress at the range in a distinctly spectacular way.

Nemo Arms also offers much more traditional AR-platform designs chambered in standard AR-10 rifle ammunition (the XO line) as well as intermediate cartridges (the BATTLE-LIGHT and FX lines).
